We have just put a series 2 bluebird electronic dizzy on an L18.
I have been told that I need to swap over the coil to the same that is on the series 2 bluebird.
Can anyone tell me why I need to do this?

Thanks

Bruce

I'm not too sure why, but when I upgraded my L28 dizzy to an electric I was also told you needed the suitable coil. Can't go wrong with this upgrade, big difference.

Cheers, James

The Series II Bluey had what was described as a High Energy Ignition system and as such the coil is different to handle the higher primary current that this system will produce.
Always make sure you use these parts as a "set" to ensure you are getting the best spark and you will not burn out the coil.

A standard coil can overheat and explode, showering you and you pride & joy with red hot oil and shards of aluminium. The std bluey coil has a relief valve to prevent this. They arent that great. Best coil to use is a Bosch HEC715. Recommended by Bosch engineers. Use other coils at your own risk. Check around there may be others that are safe to use.

howdy all just a few quick questions
when swapping to elec distributor do you need to change ignition timing or is it not enough of a difference to worry about. what is the best/stock ignition timing for a stock L20b with a 5 speed? any other info related to this would be great if you think i could use it.

cheers Midget.
