there's an invitational class for things that don't quite fit the regs and unreg cars are allowed to enter. I'm seriously considering putting an entry in.

yeah i saw that

I dont have full rally safety gear so would need to buy
balaclava, gloves boots socks etc, which is not a bad thing i guess
then i would have to find a co driver with all of the same gear
then i dont know if my car will comply with their scrutiny requirements

what does refueling involve ? or do you just fill up at the start and be done with it as its only 35km all up ?

on a side note schedule R seems to restrict turbo chargers only, not superchargers. I wonder if that is a misprint or can genuinely be interpertated in that way ? I should imagine that cams would argue the point !

anyway, it does look like fun, the question still begs how does qld challenge run something like 7 special stages for $160.00 and these guys charge $400.00 ?

The QLD Challenge is run under a Touring Road Event Permit which is alot cheaper.

I hadn't thought about the requirements for suits etc in rallying. that does make it a bit expensive. ANd upgrading to a Rally licence, but that's not too much.

I can't find Schedule R!

hi guys,

if you want more info on this one, just ask me. I have all the info. as you may have seen i have been nominated as the press secretary for this one as it os our club running it.

Basically think of a rally, but smaller with 3 different surfaces. refuelling need only be done in the designated area. but its not a long event so you should be fine on one tank.

in terms of value, qld challenge you do about 2km of flat out driving. on this event you do about 35km of flat out driving - simple if you lok at it that way

please get in touch if you want to know more.

Alex

Alex,

whay not run it like a supersprint, its not like you need the navigator !
or would CAMS rules bugger that idea ?

QLD Challenge is normally 7-8km of closed roads and racetracks, which is pretty similar $$ competive km. Prince Henry Drive and Wivenhoe are pretty special stages though. Better than the autocross track and a bunch of straights. I like the idea, but being run under rallysprint regs, a closed road would have been much better and justified the cost to competitors more too. You can do an autocross or dirt sprint for $50 or $60 bucks, and that's the best part of this layout.

This event is a credit to the organising club, good on you fellas for coming up with this.

But personally I would not run a circuit car on gravel, tyres for a start. Having the extra expense and complication of a navigator is also a downer. Hope it is a success though, a few of us will be coming out for a look for sure.

All is go,

thare are 40 confirmed entries. running 30 second gaps on 5.7km. which equals about 5 cars on the road at any one time.

This will be an amazing event for spectators, so come along and have a look. starts at 10.00am, and finishes at 10.00pm. we have light towers in place for the night stages.

Oh, and jeff, we wanted to run it as a Rallysprint, but CAMS said no. so all the approvals and paperwork went through for a rally. Last week cams said it could have been run as a rallysprint

Maybe next year.
see you next weekend then

it would definitely be worth going for Datsun enthusiasts to see John Spencer's incredible 1600 and Jon Siddins awesome 240Z!

bunch of other Dattos too, but those cars and drivers are the stand-outs!

I'd like to get out to watch them, but our summer Cricket season starts tomorrow and Sunday is Mt Cotton for me.

results?

Siddins and Ferg stopped in at the Hillclimb yesterday morning on their way home from this event - they said it was pretty good but a bit rough - very bad on one of the transitions from dirt to bitumen apparently and a bit of damage to both their cars. they still had smiles ont heir faces though!

a couple of mates went out to watch too and though it was great!
