It seriously looks stock under the bonnet and from the outside. I love it :D

Yeah, and with a recirculating bov it might even sound a bit less turbocharged (the chattering wastegate is a bit of a giveaway).

One day, I reckon the engine under-tray might even make it back onto the car! Then there will be no chance of seeing anything untoward.

just wondering, whats the average weight of a gazelle?
i keep seeing really cheap CA18 setups, frontcuts etc
Im thinking on how well one would go in a 1250kg R30 skyline hatch......

there would surely be a weight saving due to the different engines, plus im pretty sure the R30 weighs similar to an S13....

I am having so many dramas getting the L24 boosted, almost not even bothered anymore
there are NO parts or knowledge base, and im sick of ordering sh*t from dodgey interstate sellers or USA

Don't want to hijack the thread, but - there should be no shortage of cast iron turbo manifolds to suit the L6 series of motors. And you have a wide selection of injectors to choose from, ditto pistons to lower the compression ratio (if needed). Likewise aftermarket ecu's are readily available. Other than that it would be the usual issues of plumbing up intercooling. Certainly easier to get power out of the L6 than swap to a completely different engine setup. Plenty of info around on this site. Anyway, enough of a thread hijack...

Back on topic - I think the gazelle weighs in at about 1000kg and some change - in any case, under 1100kg. The engine also sits quite far back in the bay, so weight distribution should be pretty optimal. Definitely a worthwhile conversion if you can find the higher-spec s12 (IRS, 4 wheel discs, 15" alloys, etc) going for cheap.

According to the original sales brouchures the S12 weighed anything from the 980kg CA20S powered povo pack "R-L" to 1090kg for the FJ20ET "Turbo RS-X". For a real world figure Brian Campbell's stripped out, caged, FJ powered Gaz is 1143kg wet.

Interesting, so there is a bit of weight in a cage then.

Only slow progress on the S12 lately, there is a bit of an oil leak coming from somewhere, and I need to generally tidy some things up, make a few small brackets, etc etc.

Well, judging from that guy's setup, it's not just a cage - r32 GTR brakes, various changes to the rear suspension setup, turbo's, intercoolers, FJ20ET twin-cam motor, larger wheels, etc etc. which would all add up.

What's interesting to note is that his is a coupe with the solid rear end and the drum brakes - I thought the coupes were all the higher-spec one.

But in general, I think a fair conclusion is that the s12 is a fairly lightweight base to start with.

Brian recently put TRX bluey discs on the rear and has a coilover H190 setup. Yeah that lot does add some weight, maybe another 100kgs all up at most? The carpet and rear seats in the hatchback are fairly heavy (but would still only remove 10-15kgs). He's using an RB25 box I think and they're not light. 1143kg is still good for a car full of fuel, oil, water, etc.

Picked up some DR30 struts for the front on the weekend, and getting the engineer out to have a look in the coming weeks - looking forward to driving it. I have taken it for a couple of quick squirts and with a new exhaust (current one is pretty bodge) and a bit of boost I recon it will be a fantastic daily.

DR30 rotors are skimmed and calipers painted, have come up pretty well.
Rotors are about 1" bigger diametre than factory s12, and apparrently the calipers share the same pad as the 720, so Bob has picked up some slightly higher-temp 4WD pads. Should pull her up a bit quicker, and make the engineer happy.

As everyone on here knows, the s12 will now have 100m caliper bolt spacing, which will make any ridiculous 4-spot conversions viable.
