Hi,
A while back i saw a 180b sss in tassie with a instrument cluster that was circular instead of square, a bit like the Z ones only it was in a 180 and i dont think it was a Z one. Anyway now i have decided i like it better then the square one and want one for my 180. Does anyone know what car it came out of, whats involved in fitting it etc

I found this car that seems to have the one i was talking about, maby its just a sss dash  though i thought sss had the same one as the gl jst with a taco in where the clock was  here is the link to the car, you cant see much of the dash though

Its from early 180B SSS's - '72 to mid '73 (ish). These are identifiable by the different front indicator / grille treatment (and the fact that they have a different dash  ). If the SSS has little triangular-ish indicators in the side of the front guards, its the earlier model. If they're at the end of the grille and integrated into the nose of the guard, they're later model ones.

The later model SSS's do indeed have a normal 4-door style dash with a tacho instead of a clock.

Earlier ones are a completely different dash, and run all the way through to the glovebox, with three large guages (speedo, tacho and clock) plus three smaller ones where the radio is on later models (oil pressure, fuel, and water temp from memory)

I'm not sure what's involved in fitting the earlier dash to a later car, as all three of my SSS's have been early models. If you PM "freak" on here, his father has what I'm pretty sure is a later model car with the earlier dash fitted.

I've seen a few on ebay in the last few months - they usually fetch round $100, maybe a bit more.

I can also confirm they are a direct replacement for the square lights.

You'll just need to remount your stereo if you have it installed in the dash (as the fuel, oil pressure and water temp sit where your stereo is).

I have 2 spare sets, one with burnt out gauges, but I'll keep both for now.

I reckon that dash is out of a "chook cooker"

That one on ebay is proabably from an 810 180b? I have put an early model dash (Like the one pictured at the top - round gauges) into a later model 4 door, it bolted straight in, but you will need to mess with the wiring to get everything working. They have the same main connecting plug, but the pin position in them is different. Nothing too hard. Oh and mine was a mph speedo (I think all these early dashes were)
