Tones,
What is the shock rate for the TRD's? What did they come off?

Finished fabricating the rear strut brace today. I welded the brackets on first and then mocked up using electrical conduit. When i was happy with the clearance i started on the stainles bar, drilling it out to allow for the threaded inserts and piecing it together.

Great work, did you plug weld the inserts into the stainless tubing?

Cheers,

Trent

You must have a keen eye trent, ive drilled the holes to plug weld but havent welded yet. Ive only got a mig at home, so tomorrow im going to take it to the local engineering shop to get it done with the tig. Think i will also get him to run around the lip too.

Nik, not sure about the shock rate. I remember reading somewhere that it was 160/60. But that doesnt really mean alot to me. Shocks are to suit toyota ae86.

Tones, you can MIG weld it, but use stainless wire. Or you can just TIG it.

Running around the lip with the TIG is what it's made for, because you don't have to use any filler. Should work a treat. Looks great mate.

Fitted up the TRD shocks today and first impressions are good!!! I did a few quick tests before fitting, to get a starting point with the adjustables. On compression, the original kybs (close to new about 500kms on them) are about the same as setting 4 or 5 on the TRD ajustables. Rebound is where the big difference is. The rebound of the TRDs is much much slower and steadier. Even at setting 2, the rebound is slower than the kybs. Went for a squirt around town, and it feels good... great in fact. Predictable and not too harsh at all. I cannot contribute the new feel all to the new shocks because ive made quite a few changes to the rear end all at once, including springs and strut bracing, but what a diiference is has made.

How good are welding magnets. Strut brace looks sweet and cheers for the feedback on the shocks, always good getting a real life unbiased opinion when discussing shocks.

Polyurethane bushes for diff moustache bar arrived today, also invested in magnetic protractor to work on refining my driveline angularity. Using a document created by Greg Fick and posted up on ozdat sometime ago by SX510, ive managed to determine that my driveline angularity is out by about 2 degrees. Will hope to experiment with differential angle in the next couple of days to get it right.

For those following at home who have used poly bushes, the two piece bushes have different sized lips. Is there a particular top and bottom?

Got it!
Thanks Tones. Will have a read of it and comment accordingly. I have the same problem as you with axle tramp, but not sure if it's as bad?
Perhaps we can compare notes. I think I will change the rubber bushes in my car to angle the diff nose more to the floor. It's such a compromise though, because I was more concerned about suspension geometry that I put my bushes in with the short section on top to push the back of the diff up. Didn't think it would affect wheel hop though, so may try it the other way with some back to back testing on one of the local traffic light intersections :D

Ive fitted my poly bushes with the smaller lip at the top too, if i do need to lift the nose a little, i could always try inserting them with the fat lip at the top. Although im not sure if 5mm that far away from the pivot point is going to change the angle that much. I did notice a difference tho with the poly bushes fittted. I used to get some driveline bounce when reversing with the old rubber bushes, but it isnt as bad with the poly ones. Next will be a nismo gearbox mount i think.

Hmmmm Nismo gearbox mount? That's an interesting thought. I think it might help you out Tones. How's progress going? DO you think it's making any difference?
