NB: pics will be up soon

Name: Daniel, aka "Slick" (dont ask)

Age: 24

Car:my car is a 1984 nissan bluebird series 2 third edition trx (910)
and yes i am a HUGE Bluebird fan. it is in the factory TRX red and only has a few spots of rust, but they are bad and needs attention soon before they become BIG tasks.
I love this car and although I have come close (usually to big mechanical problems) to selling it its horrible brick like shape really appeals to me, very 80's, and the car shares the same birth year with me, so I’ll hold on to it forever.

History
Purchased the car in early 2000's (cant remember the date) but i think it was bought around when i was 19.
car was a virgin (not modified) untill i broke it, several times.
First engine, the head cracked through into the rockercover about 10cm long - turning the oil into caramel and stuffing up a bore in the process (proof that ignorance is not bliss).

went through some hoo ha and ended up with a 2nd hand motor till i could afford an upgrade.

purchased Wak 910's old suck through turbo setup and ran that for a bit - just not what i was looking for, the car was an everyday runner and this motor drew way too much attention and chewed through the fuel.

This is how i ended up with the setup i currently have.

Engine
L20B
Electronic ignition Dizzy
Electric fuel pump
Stage 3 Waggot sports camshaft
Rebuild twin piston type carbs off a 180b sss, using spun alloy ram tubes
Pacemaker 4-2-1 extractors
2 ¼ inch exhaust with hi flow muffler and cannon
Minimal head work done, only match ported and "cleaned up" manifold and head.
Heat wrapped extractors (still have heat issues)

Suspension
King variable rate lowered springs
Gas shocks
R31 front sway bar
Twin 910 rear swaybar (for slidin')
16 inch AVS (yokahama I think) 6 spoke pearl white rims rolling 250/16/50 sporty directional rubber

Brakes and driveline
H190 live rear end
TRX rear solid discs
5 speed manual (shifter cut down as far as possible)
Heavy Duty organic clutch (best clutch I have ever bought, is heavy but useable)
R31 front vented discs
Good old bendix advance pads

Interior
Drivers RECARO
MOMO 'race' steering wheelin red
Gauges that don’t work pretty much everywhere they just light up so I think I'm pimpin' it.
Some kenwood deck that has a remote and ipod usb thingy.

Plans
well that comes later……

and this is how it is now...

overall the performance with the new carbs and cam etc have made it rather responsive and pick up is great.

the best part of the rev range is from about 3k to 5k rpm as this is where the cam kicks in, anything beyond that become less productive as the tune is still for a 180b - changing needles etc has been avoided for now as to get someone to do it will cost too much and a diy needs plenty of trial and error - time which i never had
the car has always been a rolling project

i have scored a z18 turbo off of another bluey fan a year or so ago.

has ecu and loom for s2 bluey, gbox, t28 turbo + dump, small top mount cooler, basically all the basic necessities.

this is to go in the bluey EVENTUALLY.

as i wish for this conversion to be legal i'm trying to either fit my l20 internals (if it is not too hard) to bump up the cc's a bit to make it a z20 - i want to do this as i cant under sa law fit a turbo to any other motor if it was not as nissan made it. so the plan is keep the block with the numbers so it appears to be a z18 (1.8L)

either that or just rebuild the stock motor, balance it a bit, throw in a z22 camshaft and dont stuff about and while doing this parry the l20b bottom end up to it for the time being. although i'm not to confident the stock ecu will be ok with a 2L.

also i have to do some work to the reat diff to avoit a possible structural issue where the lower controll arm pulls away from the body as it is only spot welded - many a bluebird have been retired due to this happening.

anyway that is my ride and project. nothing will be really happening to it untill i get back to adelaide (living in central queensland) but i had to have a bit of a spill and talk it up somewhat. once i get back for sure i will be asking z18 questions non stop and providing an update on its progeress.

i'll also chuck some more pics up here when i can.

thanks for reading.

Daniel

I had a wrecked Bluebird once, and after my friend lost a certain something in there with a female he also bought one ;) a TRX too. He drove it unregistered (when he was 16) to NSW to get a gearbox for a friend, and it didn't miss a beat apparently. I think these cars are cool, if you don't get a TRX they can make the best Grandma-looking cars.

Get that Z18 happening, it will be quick. After seeing your SUs I'm starting to feel a bit sad. A couple of days ago I had to temporarily retire my SUs because they are very stuffed and need a rebuild. They were making the car drink far too much whatever I did. And when I say temporarily, that means anywhere between a week and two years.

Good luck with it, keep it forever as I will with my 200B.

Hi, Slick! I also joined Ozdat as the 910bluebird site is down & needed some human contact to discuss Datsuns again.
How is the job going? Looking forward to seeing your ride with the Z18/20 finally being done.

Seeya.

tell you what i'll make this a dedicated 910 discussion zone to keep us happy for the time being.

i can get into the old gallery and shoutbox bit not the forums :?

yeah job is going great but i can't believe how expensive it is to live in regional qld compred to regional sa (adelaide).
amber's job is not as good as she had hoped. the poor girl gets exposed to some crazy things. me on the other hand, approve buildings and surf forums all day - dream job!

really needing a boat though, fishing in the marina although not that great is still better than in Pt adelaide, fish bloody everywhere!

got the POS magna going - i'll put up some pics of the old clunker for a laugh
even joined magna australia forums - ha!

good to hear from you though, feeling a bit lost to be honest.

how's things for you and the datsun running ok.

g'day if course i remember you although been a while since i reached out to fellow 910ers.

oooh oooh i will put up some pics of the fagna - i mean magna - i have no accessable datsun at the moment so i'll have to deal with this for the moment. has been a real pain in the arse since i got it.

also i found out that i'm working with an ex queensland rally champ - he doesn't do much rally anymore although he is getting his liberty rs which he got after retiring the 1600 going again and aims to use it as the zero car in local rallys. the bugger also gave away a twin setup of 40mm webbers just before i worked here - GAVE THEM AWAY!

for got to add originally, but check out the you tube video of the bluey on a very very small but quality 910 bluebird cruz short vid clip. i'm a bit proud of the sound of of the old datto - i will admit i will miss the noise of the unstable burble of the cammed N/A if i go turbo >>> just look up 910 cruz, adelaide hills, or hysen tunnel, or something along those lines, cant get a link going as my work wont let me you tube.
