Well i think ive been skulking around this site for long enough and now i feel ive got the bits and pieces together to no longer just be aspiring to own a 510 but on the way to piecing together an SR20DET 1600.

If nothing else, this forum has proved an inspiration even this far as Ive seen so many projects receive so much support from other forum users which in my mind is sensational.

So early 2007 i bought the 1200 coupe (pictured). I couldn't afford to keep it so I waited and started looking for a 1600. It probably wasn't the right way of doing things but i found a maddat fitting kit and got a blue 16 thrown in for nothing...

Then late 2007 I came across a project car with no motor after its owner spent big bucks on a 2.4 that met an untimely demise after snapping the valves off with the help of the pistons (long story)... the 1972 1600 sat in a shed for approximately 5 years until the owner decided to offload it (thanks Matt). I took one look and negotiated on the spot. I have since sourced a 93 s13 Sr20det wreck and removed the motor and harness and the rest of the story is yet to written.

All comments and advice welcomed...cheers.

My bad perthute, submitted the thread before i'd finished it.
I found the coupe in Bunbury and still regret selling it to my brother. He stripped it bare and it had a twenty cent sized rust hole in the front passenger fender and car park wear and tear, everything else was micky duck including delivery dockets and service history untill 1996.

Anyway, the 1600 is my new focus untill he sells me the coupe back :D I live down Busselton way but hope to come and catch the perth ozdat contingement soon.... 8)

nice car, and good work on the sr conversion - you won't regret it!

I think i know the previous owner of that car, is the interior a custom trim with vt material?

Well I know I may regret this in the long run but Ive deceided that I just cant see the 1600 sitting around, lookin at me with puppy dog eyes, begging for a new heart. So I took the plunge and decided to sell this.......

Unfortunatley the original owner cannot be reached so all motor details are sketchy. Mick, the guy I purchased the motor off, had a slip of paper on which the original owner had written as follows....L20b engine built as full race engine by Dat Rally produces over 200hp. $5000 spent on head work alone with port, polish, springs and valves etc. Race cam. Crank, flywheel and running gear balanced and polished. Flat top pistons, electronic dizzy. Twin 48mm side draught webers. Spent a little over $10,000 on this package.

I cant verify any of it ofcourse but to say that you could eat your dinner off the internals would be an understatement and it all seems to be as stated. I tried to verify the motor build with Dat Rally, but they dont keep records from this period, all though I did find a Thermo seal tied around the sump with a seriel number that may be of some use :?

So the motor slotted in no dramas, although I do need some 1600 mounts (call you again Monday Baz :D ). Car did have a GT40 coil already in but it proved to be stuffed, so i fitted the coil that came with the engine and it started first pop. revs like a beotch but seemed a bit lean by the state of the plugs. Once ive got the mounts and sorted out an accelerator cable set up (any ides please read my thread in the engine section) I'll take it for a dyno and see exactly what I need to get me racing......?
