the problem with some people tackling their own mods is a scary thought though, some of the sh*t i've seen people i know do to their own cars is beyond scary, sure there are a select few people out there that know what they are actually doing, but there's a reason why a backyard brake upgrade is illegal, sure a majority of us on these forums might now what we are doing, but if the average joe upgraded his brakes and left a pin out or didn't bleed the brakes properly etc, he's then risking other peoples lives

I'm all for doing the work at home, but only if you actually have half an idea on what you are actually doing, or at least have someone to check it over once you've finished

Even IF you know what you are doing, get someone to check your work..
Some large mechanic workshops actually get someone else to double check safety required work.
It's important!

And that's what I like about this forum, most ppl do know what they're on about and can do the stuff them selves.

I come from an automotive background; 2.5yrs of my apprenticeshipp finished till I got rolled by my last employer, and also me loosing interest on the industry and actually wanting to be in it.

Now I work as a draftsman/designer and love working on my car on weekends, more so the hands on stuff that I can do my self.

Back to the Nissco discussion, does anyone know what Randy charges to mod R31 rear caliper brackets?

Spandex mentioned $80 bucks for the pair?

Ryan,

They don't call themselves Datto workshops anymore. They call themselves NISSAN workshops... And there are heaps of them.

You can't use the example of taking a car to three other mechanics and then to Randy's and the problem is sorted. If you told Randy what the other mechanics did, then it saves him heaps of time diagnosing what he should be working on. Sort of makes the problem too easy.
This may/may not be the case, but you just have to be careful singing someone's praises and knocking another.

FFS, local mechanic put a swaybar on up the wrong way, didnt go back there...
I have had some 'bad experiences' as well... Things that are MAJOR safety issues too FFS! I'm not going to share them, but needless to say, my Dad and I don't go to a particular mechanics any more and wouldn't recommend them to anyone for that matter.
okay, why dont we have a sticky thread of NISSAN workshops that have datsun experience?... with no negative comments, but if someone has an un-justified yet serious negative experience, they PM you to have it removed?.

theres alot of work that goes into them.

No time and no tools.

by the time I buy a welder, dremell etc thats already $160+ may as well just give them to him to modd them up.

and yes you need a welder to plug the old holes up and then you have to drill new ones.

Alex,

If you have a drawing of what you want, I could probably weld, cut and re-drill to your requirements, for the payment of a couple of slabs?

Nah, all good.
Depends on the slab I guess. I was thinking $30 slabs, but then realised you can't get good beer that cheap anymore. More like $55 on special for one damn it.

Coronas?

Hhhhmmmm well with the weld on ones would I still need to take the hubs out? I wouldn't mind doing so because I have brand new bearings and I'm getting the DIY ARC welded on by my GF's uncle so I'm thinking bolting both the R31 brakes and the ARC up in the one go.

I don't want to bother the man too much because he's already doign the welding for free, so maybe one of you guys could help me with the brakes??
