Cheers Len.

I'm booked in for the QR SAS on 6 Sep. Hoping for a dry day so I can crack a 1:01.

Thanks again Len.

Tell the Jag owner I have some of his coolant....on my windscreen, my bonnet, my tyres....made for an interesting lap following him, especially sliding over Eastern Loop and all the way down the hill

Out of interest how did you fair against the jag down the straight before he did his big dump and burn .. or should i say spray

its a 5.3 l fuel injected v12 , he is learning to drive it after having campaigned a 260 z datto for the past 4 years

I only just overtook him on the last lap but it was a wild (slippery) ride following him. The old girl looks great.

only just over 4 weeks to the next round - Sept 21!

I'm trying to get my Datto quietened down and sort a couple of things so I can have a run in it. Hoping for a 58 out of it on the current 1bar/180rwkw tune, but I'll be happy as long as it goes sub 60. It all depends on how well she rides the bumps around the back of the circuit I think. oh, and how long the turbo stays on!

If all goes well I'll retune it to 1.5bar (hopefully back up to the 230rwkw it had before) and make some setup changes and have a real go on Oct 19

Given the timing vagueness of the lap timing last time out I'm looking into getting some affordable and reliable in car timing. The best compromise between price & accuracy seems to be the XT Racing Ultra-Lap Complete Timer Kit ($399.95 including download cable + $20 postage = $419.95) - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XT-Racing-Ultra- ... dZViewItem.

It works much the same as an AIM MyChron Light which is dearer at $449 (plus the download cable $121.55 = $620.55) - http://www.kartbay.com.au/p/336526/mych ... timer.html

Main difference seems to be the beacon can be switched from Start/Finish (compatable with the MyChron) to Split (NOT compatable with the MyChron), software and general build. At $200 cheaper I'm pretty convinced it's a good deal.

Another option is the Drift/Perforamce Box but they're $1500 - http://www.driftbox.com. GPS timing with lots of trinkets. Again at 1/3 the price the XT looks even better.

Opinions guys? Anyone have one of these or is interested in one themselves?

my mate just bought one of the XT's (Dave with the VW) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/XT-Racing-Ultra- ... dZViewItem
and loves it. I will probably get one as well eventually so that we can do split timing with them.

cheers Jeff

performance box can be had for around $8-900 IIRC. Being GPS based makes it possible to analyse best lines through a corner. I'll find some links...

Excelent, let us know how it performs and I'll probably get one by the next Lakeside day if not before the next SAS.

L18_B110, One thing to watch out for with the Drift/Performance Box is there's 1 price just for the unit, windscreen mount and 12v supply, and then you need an SD card, USB cable (or SD card reader/laptop/etc) and 240v supply if you want to hook it up to a PC.

here you go - Performance Box $850
http://www.racerindustries.com/store/in ... cts_id=613

I wouldn't expect it to come with a card - cameras don't, phones don't...
you can buy a 1GB SD/MMC card off ebay for $12 incl postage
and loose change (like $3) will get you a USB SD/MMC card reader on ebay if you don't already have an all-in-one card reader for things like CF cards for cameras and SD cards from phones etc.
and if you must have a 240v power supply (which I can't see any use for), a generic one with the right voltage output will probably set you back about $15

not bad value for the features:
99 lap memory
best lap time
up to 6 splits
speed at split
cornering, accelleration, and braking G forces
GPS positioning (you can overlay your lines on Google Earth image of the racetrack)
etc...

and the included software can provide:
Graphical display of logged parameters
Full 3D Circuit plot (including elevation changes)
Up to 4 overlaid comparison laps

I've been thinking about one for a while...

On a slightly suckier note, I got a call from QR about my unregistered Datsun entry for Lakeside. They certainly aren't keen on letting it run. So I might have to bring the Supra out as well in case they say no...

Seems like a few of us are getting serious in this area!

L18_B110, I'd be quite keen to see one of these drift boxes in the flesh and working.

Anyone want to give me a demo?

Cheers,

:( just got off the phone with the QR officials - my Datsun is not going to be allowed at this event. They're strictly road car only at this event, so I'll be back in the Supra for another go. I'll have to wait till after the resurfacing and do a TopGear race meeting to get the Datsun out there...
