bugger! I guess that's why I keep paying this damn rego every time it rolls around. One day I'll actually wake up and see the sense in putting the money into more go fast bits, as realistically, mine only gets rre-egistered to run on the race track for certain events and categories!

you should get classic rego. About $160/year with restrictions on use. Allowed to drive to & from events and workshops, and within 15km radius of home for 'road testing'

:( just got off the phone with the QR officials - my Datsun is not going to be allowed at this event. They're strictly road car only at this event, so I'll be back in the Supra for another go. I'll have to wait till after the resurfacing and do a TopGear race meeting to get the Datsun out there...
Oh dear, how sad

And the Poopra is no good out there either, tough luck Harry, you'll have to give it a miss then

Yeh OK, I confess, you fast blokes will show me up too much

I bought an intercooler kit for the Supra on the weekend, so we'll see if that makes any difference to the old girl's performance... if I manage to fit it in time!

Rob going to bring his 240Z out for another go too - hopefully this time it stays dry for him so he can get a proper time.

Jeff I'd be happy to supply a sample of coolant to be tested

I'm not sure if I did a 1:01 or not, but given my other times were in the early 1:06's so I just don't know. I did get a few laps hooked up right before encountering either traffic or coolant from the XJS. I'll try to get out there again before the resurfacing with a few more tweaks to see if I can post a consistant series of 1:05's or better in a group of similar cars
maybe you should retract your 1:01 from the Top spot on the Track Times thread??? You know you didn't manage to jag one single lap 5 SECONDS faster than all your others! That's an absolute eternity on a racetrack! Otherwise how do you explain wanting to run consistently 4 seconds slower than you've been in the past???

Sorry, but I just had a look at the first page of the lap time thread, and things like that get to me...

Look forward to seeing you and Rob out there Harry, there will be at least two more Zeds there as well as mine, all I ask for is a fine sunny day so my RE55 hards will get some heat in them.

My brake booster has finally been fixed up, plus the rear ARB has been disconnected, getting some more rear negative camber and the rear dropped 5mm to get more back end grip. Lets hope it does not push too much but I'd rather some of that than oversteer at Lakeside

Yep you're right. Despite the official result I've asked for a realistic time to go up. No need to get shirty about it though.

sounds like a good idea, the last thing you want is a twitchy car over the bumps under the bridge! I'm looking forward to it. Got some better tyres going on the Supra this week, so hopefully be a touch quicker this time. Not really a semi slick, sort of a 'jack of all trades' tyre. Kuhmo KU36 245/40 front and 275/35 rears :)

Hopefully Rob can get a god time in his 240Z too. Will be good to see so many Zeds there! Can't wait to have a sticky beak at yours!

now, we all know that QR can be a little contentious with their time results. I know that while racing and crossing the finishing line in front of the car that came third, you can still end up with a result of 5th place. Not sure how, but they were convinced that the car which finished behind me was actually .4 second in front of me.

I was glad I only had that sheep station out near Windorah riding on that race! ;-)

bring out the performance box!

QR has had electronic (RF) timing since sometime last year. I have their RF thingies in the windscreen of botht he Datto and Supra.

Lakeside uses their old PC/mouse clicky timing system... the accuracy of that can be a little suspect if you are in traffic. but last time I was there in clear air I ran a full session (5 laps)of 1:03's so if you're in clear air the system works OK.

Performance box would be very cool - little pricey though... that's why I've been thinking about them for a while. I'll probably continue to think about one for a bit longer too!

lol, I refer to the most recent top gear event and the timing at QR. Apparently, if there are 2 or 3 cars very close (crossed finish line beside one 1600 with an escort right behind him) they may have to resort to manual timing (found this out after disputing with the time keepers). The irony of it was that all times were recorded with only changes to the tenths of seconds, which is way too much co-incidence for me.

I'm thinking that my christmas tree may have one of those performance box 'boxes' under it this year. Of course, I will have emptied said box and installed contents in car, negating the need to carry such heavy weight up stairs only to eagerly await christmas day ;-)

all things equal in the realm of motorsport, the little red car will be there! Some things to do first, but nothing major.

Is this the bit where I suggest having a sausage sizzle of some sort?

I've decided just to change the tyres for this round, and put the intercooler on for the final round. That way I'll be able to see whatever improvement each change gives - if any! The tyres better give me a time improvement, but I wouldn't be too surprised if the intercooler does nothing measureable to the laptimes.

don't be too hard on the Supra - way I see it, it really is a modern interpretation of a 240/260Z! much more so than the 350Z is! straight six, rwd, sports car, long bonnet short rear, seating position is almost on the rear tyres... and most importantly its fast!
