No that's fine but thanks anyway, will keep looking for book.
Yeah my partner didn't want me to buy the yellow one either because of the up and coming wedding but us Datsun owners have to get a fix every now and then. I've cleaned it up a little and have really enjoyed it while having it but am willing to sacrafice it only because i have an even better one. Well good luck with the wife as i know first hand how hard it is trying to convince them.
Cheers.

This is similar to my parts manual, but mine is for '65 models. This isn't mine, BTW.

Saw that one, is yours 65, they are a lot different again as they had disc brake front, only 2 seater and different dash and guages. Mine didn't sell?????? Oh well will try other means, had a bit of interest. Might just have to wait till summer.

Do you have any details on what's required to fit an L-series motor to a fairlady ? I've been sussing it out, and the only thing that looks tight is the oil pump hanging down at the front of the timing cover - looks like you may need to notch the large-ish x-member in the fairlady ?

I finally got myself a fairlady (well, two actually  ) and I'd like to get one up and running quickly and cheaply till I have the time to fully restore them. This won't be till after I finish my 180B SSS project (so a looong time off....).

One option would be to put an L-series in, as I have a few running L18's lying round in the shed. Don't want to do anything that isn't reversible though, as the fairlady will be returned to original once I have time.

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind.

Only problem I can see is that the engine bay in the fairlady is really narrow. Just by "eyeballing" it, I reckon the exhaust manifold / turbo wouldn't clear the inner guard / chassis rail.

I guess it would be pretty easily fixed by some sort of high-mount manifold, but then its getting to be a major (expensive) job rather than a way to get it on the road cheaply and easily.

Maybe sometime in the future though

Congrats on the purchase Dave, saw those on there, it was a good buy for the 2 of them. The other one was a 1500 wasn't it?
I bought mine with the L16 in it but yeah it has had the X-member notched out. It still uses the original rubber engine mounts and custom made brackets off the engine, and a gearbox mount also had been made. Also the tachos are mechanical driven not electric (in the 1500 not sure about 1600) as you probably know. It's a bit of a nightmare trying to get the L series out as you need to lift it high enough to get the oil pump above the X-member before you can pull it forward.
I ended up selling my yellow one a week before my wedding which was good timing, well for my partner anyway as it ment more spending money for the honeymoon.
Goodluck with them and glad to see they've gone to a good home.

Thanks mate, yeah should go pretty good i'm hoping.
Not going yet unfortunately, about to start on the body in the coming weeks, going to get it painted gloss black. Just finished dismantling it for a complete body off paint job. Hopefully have it on the road with in the next 6 months, only time and money will tell.

Yep, a '65 1500 and a '66 1600. The 1500 has had a late model R16 fitted though (with an alloy head and 5 main bearings). If I had my choice, I would have preferred either a '64 model 1500 with three seats or a 2000 - I ended up with the exact opposite  . I kept looking at your yellow one, came close to organising a trip down to look at it a few times. I'm really happy with what I've ended up getting though - the long term plan is to fully restore the 1500 to original (if I can find a 1500 motor) and take a few more liberties with the 1600 as far as originality goes.

The tacho in both of mine are mechanically driven. Being a '65 model, my 1500 has the exact same dash as the 1600 rather than the earlier 1500 dash like yours had.

Thanks for the info on getting the L18 in, although I'm leaning towards reconditioning one of the original motors now.

I can sympathise with you selling the yellow one to pay for the honeymoon as I sold one of my restored vintage bikes to pay for my wedding / honeymoon years ago. I can't complain though, as the wife is pretty good with my Datsun hobby.

An update on the Fairlady, have stripped the car of all its panels and are currently getting dipped to remove all paint, bog and rust(hopefully none). While they're getting done i am taking the rest of the body back to bare metal and getting it ready to take to the panel beaters/spray painters in mid December. The car is going to be painted in 2pac Black with the BRE graphics on either guard done in black metal flake. I'm hoping it will turn out as good as i think it will.

Well my car will be making its journey to the panel shop next week. :D
The only rust that was found in the body was in the left rear quarter which is a good thing but the bad is the previous owner who did the repairs on the car did a very bad job at cutting and plating the rust and smuthered the car in bog. :x All of his old repairs will be cut out and repaired properly.
Hopefully will have the car back mid to late February and will be posting pictures of its progress. In the mean time i will be getting the chassis and suspension ready.
These are the LED lights i will be running in the rear and front.

Also got my crank pulley back with the Gilmer pulley and 60-2 trigger wheel for the ignition attached and looks awesome, just need to make a tensioner for the belt. It should sound pretty sweet.

M.K. Paint and Panel doing a great job on the body, new sill panels made for both sides and rear panel to fill in the gap the bumper normally hides as i'm not running bumpers. All holes in the engine bay have been welded in. The new tail light panels welded in. Moulding seam has also been welded in and rear quarters straightened. Will be picking up panels from paint strippers in the next couple days.

It's been a while but progress is slowly being made, the doors are on and the new sill panels are in.
Having finally found some guards after 6 months of searching, I hope to have it back in the next couple of months and will any luck back on the road in time for summer. What year that will be who knows, i'm for this year but i said that 3 years ago :impatient:
