I'm in the middle of writing the email now Rob, I've been busy doing other applications... :?

Vaughan, duly noted. Still frustrating though :impatient:

My girlfriends under the impressions getting a job in the mines is as easy as just rocking up with a hard hat. If its this hard for someone WITH qualifications im guessing i've got zero chance.

She's definitely got the wrong idea, Riley.
The only thing that might change that is if you actually go up to Karratha or Port Headland & start job hunting from there.
Like Vaughan said, it took him 6 months to get one WITHOUT qualifications. How long would YOU be prepared to wait?

I dunno, maybe you'd have better luck trying for a job in North West QLD? :?

Well she was gonna start a job in Mt Eliza (QLD) and i was gonna move up there with her. I was expecting maybe a month long wait but she was certain i'd walk into a job straight away. Lucky we didn't move up there because it would have been heaps worse by the sound of it.

Don’t get me wrong, there's SOOO much 'Metro' work here in Perth it's not funny.
And I believe it’s the same in the big metro centres in QLD (Brissy, Townsville etc. etc.).

The mine sites in remote parts of these states seem to be much harder to break into...

that's because you need a higher calibre of person, someone who can work unsupervised AND get the job done.

there's no one standing over your shoulder 40klm from the mess while you're brazing up a bleed pipe in 47º heat.

All the dudes I've met on site are wondering around getting payed huge bucks and doing fug all. Contractors seem to be the only dudes wanting to get any work done and the regular site guys are doing their best to stop that from happening

Haha, very true!
I personally can't handle slacking off though - I HAVE to stay busy.
I get bored & it makes the day go SOOOO much slower if I do SFA.

BTW, I've spoken to a couple of people, but as yet - NOTHING :( :impatient:

My missus is an accountant with 'The Integrated Group'. They're a labour hire mob, but have contracts with the mines, might be worth dropping them a line.
