I've also had several people recommend Prahran electroplaters. Haven't used them myself, but they have a good rep. My only concern with them was that they weren't interested in doing my tail lights. No doubt they'd be fine for bumpers though.

Of all the places I've looked up for my tail lights, Ace in Adelaide were the only ones that ensured me they could make them look NOS. Haven't sent them yet, but will when I can be shagged. Have also heard good things about them.

I'd be happy to contact Prahran (there local for us in Melbourne), to find out if they'll look after us if we get a heap done together. Maybe we could get some numbers together?? I'd get a rear for sure, and possibly a front.

If anyone has a reasonable rear, please PM me!

And Anth, who's dicking you about with yours? I thought the idea of this post was to find a good plater, AND save people from using dodgy companies?!

I wouldn't want to do couple lights either! Under that chrome most are rusted/pitted.

umm...my parents just bought a new company, that specialise in electroplating and metal plating etc...

my old man keeps his work to extremely high standards and lots of his custom parts are used on 1900-1920/30's rebuilds, i'm yet to see of any of the work this new company is doing but i know my old man wouldn't be letting sh*t work getting done...if anyone wants the companies number i can get more details?

also can pass you along to the old man if you need some custom bits and pieces done up, he's an engineer by trade and a damn fine one at that...

Sounds cool. Can you post any details of the company?

Maybe fill in your location too.

another  to Vinneys Dandenong, about 3 years old and no problems. I think I paid about $300 each but offered cold hard cash of course.

Just do update this old thread, I finally got my bumper back from re-chroming a couple of months ago and I'm really pleased with the new company I dealt with:

I got put onto him by a mate who got a BMX frame plated there and only had good things to say about them. When I first visited there I was really impressed with how professional, welcoming, and thorough Rob was. He explained the whole process to me, told me he wanted to pull the bumper apart to do a proper job on it, and he insisted on replacing a broken mounting stud that I was just going to leave. He is just one of those guys that takes pride in his work and is actually nice to customers, something I honestly thought didn't exist in this game! The other thing I liked about the place is that there was a lot of other car parts being done there, not like the last place I used which always had bigger fish to fry.

:cheers

Great feedback Anth. I actually used those guys to plate some of the bolts and parts on my car.
Might have to pay them a visit again for the bumpers!
