(or if anyone has a good bumper they want to part with that would be most handy  )

Hi long time electroplater & metal polisher in Dandenong Vic. A.A.Vinney's 74 Bennet St. Ph. 03 9794 7530 was good last time I used him 2 years ago.

I need to get my rear bumper done soon also. I might also try this place. Thanks for putting it up.

I have a bumper from them, it came in the spare parts car, I reckon they're not that great, the bumper seems to be a remanufactured one and over hangs on either side compared to the original one that came on my car, also some of the chrome was peeling off and the guy I bought the car off told me he had it done 18months ago and this was in may.

I'd look elsewhere if you want a front bar that will sit right and chrome last you many years to come.

Most repaired bumpers are a bit longer than the original. The reason is they have to re-roll them to get the dings out. It's hard to find a good plater these days. I have had a few re-chromed before by a few different shops and they both looked like sh*t a year or so down the track.

bumping this thread back up as I am having an absolute PRICK of a time with a rechromer, my rear bumper has been getting 'repaired' for almost 12 months now, apparently there is a small patch that keeps reacting when they plate it, and I'm getting sick of waiting, the last call I made to them they told me they were 'sick of it and put it aside'. Great!

So, I'm looking for a rechromer who is passionate and takes pride in their work, doesn't mind working on bumpers, and someone who isn't scared of a challenge. It seems a lot of places have bigger fish to fry and don't really have time for the small stuff like our car parts.

Please help!!

Anth,

I'm interested in getting my bumpers re-chromed. Can you recommend a place?

If you can be bothered freighting...

Ace Metal Finishers here in Adelaide did a great job for me on both my bumpers, and for $250 each... Other quotes i had were around 370ea.
The chrome looks great to my unprofessional eye, and only time will tell if it lasts...

They are in Thebarton if you want to look him up and give him a call...
For that price you could probably freight it over and back and still be cheaper than some places.

Chris

Yes I did. I was hoping:
1. You would tell me who the great big stinky poo poo heads who are chroming your bumper at the moment (probably via PM, so I don't choose the same supplier)
2. Perhaps I can chuck my bumpers in with you and we get a 'group buy' to make it worthwhile???

 classic response anth.

While i personally have not had experience with them for bumpers, Prahran platers did the bumpers on joels bright orange 1600. Joel would have to be one of the fussiest guys i know, i bought his old bumpers off him that had been rechromed a few years ago so that he could get a fresh set for his from these guys. They seem to have pleased him so i guess they are good! i think they were $350 or $400 a pop but fix them well. They did all the work on my handles/tail lights and badges and came up good!

haha sorry, I left my mind-reading cap at home :P PM me if you want to know the place. Mines all being done thru insurance so I don't think a group buy would be feasible. Remember when I got slighty rear-ended? Well I had a mint straight re-chromed rear bar on the car that got squashed, so when the car got repaired I sourced another bar from datsport and the panel beaters had it rechromed, but after a while a bit of rust showed up in one of the seams, so I took it back to my own choice of rechromer to get fixed, it took them about 6 months before they even looked at it, and then they started having trouble with the rust patch once they put it through the baths and they can't get it fixed now. I dunno, I'm so over it!!!
