I mounted a Pioneer unit in, and i had to take out the old radio - you have to cut the plastic fascia a little bit with a coping saw or whatever - and bend the metal brace at the back of the dash, so that you can bolt it to the back of your new head unit. Sorry i havent got any pics. Its easy though mate! :D

i was going to do that, or put an escort centre console in and put it in there. as either have anough room (with trimming) to fit a single din cd player, or 3x 2 inch gauges.
so all i need to work out is to put headunit down near shifter in the escort centre console, or like you've done in the dash.

Yeah, i cut the fascia to fit the deck face. I dont know if yours is anything like mine, mine seems to have had some work done to it electrically prior to me purchasing it (the 1600), but i had some prehistoric Westminster tape deck unit, and it had a metal brace at the back, similar to something you'd find in a meccano set or something, which mounted behind the ashtray.

As for the speakers - i havent chucked them in yet - ive owned my datto for only a handfull of weeks, but im going to make a plywood dash, covered in either black vinyl or grey velour, and mount blocks on the bottom so that its elevated enough, for my sub and 7x10's, magnets, to fit in the existing holes. Im dont wanna wreck the black door trims - so im gonna mount tweeters in the corners of a-pillar with double sided tape or something like that.

Yer well what im hoping to do is buy an alpine 7'' in dash monitor but keep the whole dash ridgy didge!!! and because the am radio is mounted back deeper into the dash i would need to have the face of the alpine monitor almost flush with the front to allow clearence for the screen to open in and out! but i took off the am player and came out with a gewd idea for it!! i will post some pictures up when im gona start the swap! Still chasing any pictures to any one who reads this post!!!

another option if you want to keep it stealth is by mounting it in the glove box compartment, cant do that with a DVD screen though, never understood why you'd want a DVD screen in your car, i suppose having a 50" panasonic vierra Plasma TV and 7.2 surround stereo at home is the main reason

I think a little touch screen player would b nice in a datto!! its a gewd idea to mount it in ur glove box but then there would be no glove box room to put ne thin in and wat happens if u get bored of that cd and ur the only person in the car!! wont be to easy to change over the song when your dring down the highway aye!! but yer not a bad idea!!

so it'd be alright to have a 7" DVD screen in your car whilst driving down the highway though?

sorry didn't mean it that way!

been done a lot of times before, just cut the required area open and as said use the machano style rear brace to support it, or you could put guages there and mount it below the centre dash console

if you wana get round this screen locking, just put the wire from the dvd player that is to go to the handbrake and earth it to the body of the car. THis will allow the screen and the dvd to keep playing your dvd.
