Why use the crappy trimatic auto?

Autos suck, and three speed autos suck even more. You'll get much more life outta your engine with a 5 speed manual.
Umm, because it has a high stall? Manuals suck because it places so much strain on the driveline when you drop the clutch to keep up with an auto who is stalling it up.
I reckon you'd get more life out of the engine with an auto. A lot less harsh on the drivetrain etc.
V8 with an auto makes good use of the torque available.
Really? My dad had a Holden with a Trimatic, he said it was the worst gearbox he'd ever had.

Yeah, but if you put a Trimatic in a datsun, it automatically works better. Don't you know this stuff already... Jeeez.

Same with my friend's VK...he wanted to put a manual in that, but then decided that sending it to a wrecker was better.

I remember the 3 speed auto in my 200B, it just ate whatever power the stock engine was able to produce. I couldn't do the speed limit up the side of my town!

Either way, the poor owner of this car probably doesn't want us discussing this sort of stuff. Can he tell us what modifications he had to make to get the V8 to fit? Also, how hard it was to keep it street registered?
