This is my current project the restoration of a 1972 Datsun P510 / 1600.

The ultimate goal is to bring the car as close to a JDM spec 1600 as possible with the few exceptions being the dash and interior which will be "custom" .

Bits to go on car include:

New Genuine Nissan front and rear bumpers.
New JDM spec front and rear solid rubber bumper over-riders.
New Genuine Nissan tail-lights. (not JDM coupe style, euro style)
New Genuine Nissan side indicators.
New Genuine Nissan front indicators.
New Genuine Nissan JDM Fender Mirrors. (thnx nick)
New BRE style front air dam.
New Genuine Nissan bonnet trim.
New Genuine Nissan front guard eyebrow trim.
New Genuine Nissan JDM SSS-spec front grill.
I'm still chasing up a new rear bumper light. (last one on E-bay went for $225 US  ) EDIT: FOUND NEW BUMPER LIGHT
Basically I'm not putting a piece of second-hand equipment back on the car unless there is no way to get a Genuine Nissan part.
This includes every nut and bolt which I'm getting replated/replaced.
Complete replacement of all factory rubbers.

There is not an issue so long as they are Genuine Factory equipment.
My GN mirrors have a spring mechanism that goes under the guard.
This was what I was told by the RTA at Regency here in SA.

I don't know if the $300 price tag will put you off though. (for the pair/landed)

What wheels do you reckon you'll get for it?

Can't wait to see it with a lick of paint and those new parts you got for it.

It'll be one clean and quality machine.

Keep us updated with plenty of pics as things progress! :)

That leaves me a good year to put the car back together...thats do-able right???

Few more pics........

[ img ][ img ] more holes welded up.

[ img ] as was fuse box holes

[ img ][ img ] plus the door mirror holes and aerial holes.

These gaurds were a absolute bloody nightmare.
Firstly for what they initailly cost me then secondly for the amount of metal that had to be replaced once stripped back.
It certainly does SUCK when the only place in your state with 1600 guards for sale charges $150 each for totally shitty gaurds!!!

thanx for all the comments.
:D :D :D :D

when completed the front end styling will be similar to this one.... :ohplease:
[ img ] minus the black bonnet, and with chrome fender mirrors.
I can't wait................ :impatient: :impatient: :impatient: :nervous: :nervous:
I love those solid over-riders and JDM fender mirrors. 8) :hail:

Good to see someone doing something different DATSSS73 ......... should be a unique vehicle when finished. Like the attention to detail and the determination to renew everything. Look foreward to seeing the finished car some time. Hopefully DatNats 2007.

Cheers, Neil

Looking good there Dave, You are doing the shell justice.
Just keep up the good work.

by the way we have shitty guards too mate.
that just about all there is these days, we had to cut & shut a pair for Bens 16 to get a good one.

Guess who :!: :?: :?:

BTW. Derek has 2 mint condition guards .
he wont sell them under $500 each but then again they only need paint .
and where do you get new ones. as a new nissan valance costs over $500
I guess new guards would be at least $800 if you could get them.

I'm so very happy today. :D

The doors got some paint !!! :D :D :D :D :D
other panels to follow with shell seen to next week (sometime :) )
No buffing done and already a cool mirror finish. 8) 8) 8)

These photos don't do the paint any justice, it just looks so "wet".
Only the "black out" on the window frames left to do on these door now.
