Don't use fish oil it will take forever and bucket loads of prepsol to get it off. Grab some etch and get it on there ASAP. Cost **** all and is the first setp before primer anyway.

I used WD40 on mine - just a quick spray and wipe over.

Stopped surface rust for a few months and came off easily with few rags soaked in prepsol.

Having said that, nowadays I just prime each section as I get it ready.

you could do that theres a proper solution think its called acid wash panel beaters use it for bare metal preperation
i wouldnt use any oils on it as you wont know if u've removed it all and it could stuff the primer/paint up

Any reason why you aren't wiping the bare metal with fish oil after removing the paint? Would prevent the rust coming back in a hurry.
I planned to have the engine bay back to metal, all rust around there cut out and primered the first week, before surface rust would start :(
getting closer every day, every time i weld in a new piece i find another 2 to do

Ive got this phosphoric acid (rust converter) to wipe over it,then wipe that off with prepsol and then hit it with some course sand paper
cheers for all the thoughts

the turbo L20b is a definate :D ,now ive got to upgrade the front struts/brakes

welded up the biggest patch in the car today :) aswell as a couple small ones,
maybe the next few days it will have primer on it :impatient:

heres some pics of the welding and what the shed looks like every two days or so :? bloody rain

had to make a few new pieces for the bonnet hinges to bolt to on the shell, aswell as a new cover and brake block support at the back of the eng bay,did the rears of the subframe under the floor,
R I P to my old 68 :(
i just found one of my old restored 1600's for sale.
this was my second 1600,but first to one i had built ground up.
it got squashed by a tree in the new owners shed    the whole front got pancaked  i want to buy it back, though i pretty sure its non fixable, good for spares :( pics added aswell, notice my rhs sill pannels 3mm thick  i built it so it could withstand a heavy side impact(if it ever happened) naa just a bloody big tree landing on it
