The satin black one, I hate. The gloss black one, I love.

You definitely need to lower yours, even just a bit. :)

I have to be honest heath, i agree with you. Something about satin and matte black i dont like unless its on a real hot rod or something a bit special.

I'm the opposite, I reckon satin suits their body lines and size perfectly. Shiny black suits a nissan president that is squarish, but not the curved Cedrics.

I like them both, but IMO - the satin is only good for the rat rod/bike look, cheap car/bike, dodgey paint job, bit of rust, chopped/dropped, whatever.. for shits and giggles basically. The polished look is for something you have put time into and want to/will keep clean..

Painting a car satin black is like saying "I am not a car enthusiast, and I'm fu cking lazy and unwilling to learn paint and panel". There is probably one satin black car that's cool and that's Mad Max's Interceptor in the second movie, and even that was gloss black originally. But as the oft retold phrase goes, things that are cool in a post-apocalyptic world are not necessarily cool in our society. lol!

If you ever see a rat rod which is satin black... you're not looking at a rat rod, and you should probably drive out of the centrelink carpark. Rat rods have severe patina

Haha spot on. Cant say i have heard of a patina been mentioned on Ozdat before but its about time lol.
Basically i see satin black as a bit of a cop out when its is just to quickly cover up all the floors on your car.

lol classic heath! but I'm not sure about why you reckon real rat rods can't be satin black? Google-ing it, there's some very nice examples. I like the rat rod look, and what they're about, getting the thing on the road to enjoy :)

This link is to that particular Datsun's build for anyone interested :)

Look, it's just my opinion and obviously not everyone is gonna agree with it. Getting cars out on the road to enjoy is obviously something I support but primer patches aren't the end of the world. Putting rattle can enamel satin black paint on a car (which is how the vast, vast majority of these jobs are done) almost guaruntees it can't be painted properly without going to bare metal first.

If a rat rod has been painted, it isn't really a rat rod any more. Most people seem to forget that 'rat rod' consists of two elements: 'rat' which is patina and 'rod' which is a hopped up pre-war car.

Yes Hezath, we all do have an opinion, and yes its all about personal choice. But to steriotype all matt or satin black car owner's as lazy and are unwilling to learn how to paint is such a narrow minded view. To say that people who own those cars are not really car enthusiast is a joke. (ITS LIKE SAYING) Blow it out of your 260c wagon's arse! Your comment is bullshit. And BTW f#$k you! No rust in my floor and Im not trying to hide a thing, see for yourself. And Patina! I think i shagged her some year's ago.
