Hi all,

I just needed some help with an L20B into Stanza conversion. I have determined that the engine will fit pretty well, but am unsure about the driveline components.

The engine and gearbox are out of a series 1 Bluebird and are in great nick.

So, can anyone please tell me what i need to in order to get the Bluebird box fitted up? From what i already know the box is longer, so i will need to get the tailsaft shortened and the shifter hole enlaged, but will the new box affect the xmember?

Depending on how much work/money it will take, would i be better off going for a Stanza sss 5 speed?? I would like to keep the Bluebird stuff if i can because its all been looked after really well and has just bee rebuilt.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, as im pretty keen to get the L16 swapped out for the L20B asap!!!

Cheers

i currently run the l20b with 5 speed bluebird box, it was already in the car when i bought it, the previous owner made a custom gearbox bracket, just re shelled all my running gear into another stanza after a "mate" rolled my old one but all i had to do to do the transplant was cut the gear stick hole back, will post up some pics of the bracket so you can see, don't know what tail shaft im running but i have a Nissan 720 diff in the car

Cheers mate, some pics would be fantastic.

I already know its pretty simple to get the tailshaft shortened if needed, and enlarging the gearbox hole shouldnt be too much hassle but im completely unsure about the gearbox itself. And i dont wont to start, get halfway through, THEN realise the thing doesnt fit after all.

I ended up finding a cheap stanza dogleg that I used instead. Saved a lot of fiddling with the tailshaft and gear lever hole, though we still had to cut, plate and re-weld the x member as it was slightly different to the 4 speed x member.
