Hey guys. I have just bought another 1600 to start an SR T project. The car is in good condition, but it is defected. I still bought it because i presumed with the proper fitting kits from datsport and maddat, it wouldn't be hard getting an SR20 datto through the transport inspection. Is this true? What is hard about getting these cars 'approved'? Would i be better off getting it through with an L series donk first?
Cheers

whats it defected for?
You'll have to fix that problem first and then spend lots on making it safe. e.g. brakes, engineers cert, etc.
You'd still have to go through regency what ever engine you put in it now its defected. Do it right the first time.

I'd talk to either Maddat or Datsport as there both
in SA and there probably been down this road before.

I would go down to see Craig at Mad Dat. Many of his customersd have gotten full regency approval with his kits, he also can put you on to a good engineer. I am using his breaks, fitting kit, roll cage, exhaust and other bits and pieces on my fj20 turbo conversion and i have been really happy with the products and the service that i have recieved.

Whatever the defect was for it can be fixed.
If you go for the full engine/brake/suspension upgrade from e.g. Maddat, then all that is left is body work.
If the shell is too far gone then you have blown it.
However, it is only sheet metal, so all is not lost.
Each case has to be analysed individually.
It all comes back to $$$$.
A lot of rust repair sections are available from Rare Spares etc. so a 30+ year old car can be repaired.

Is the car still registered? in nsw, if a car runs out of rego, then all the defects are dismissed and are disqualified. Then all you would need is a blue slip. If its registered just take it to the rta and ask them what you need to do to get it passed.
