Looking good Ross. Keep chipping away mate, you'll get there and once you have it will be worth it. (or so I tell myself!)

Diff is in progress. Gotta rip it out again and send it back to the company that put it together so they and I can find out what is going on.

Played with putting the new wheels back together. Polished up the bolts and gave them a test fit.

Just for reference, 16 x 7 +38 all round.

Now to find some nice tyres for them!

After i bolt them back together and loctite it all.

Note the original Datsport struts from the first fitting kits. Eventually i'll change them over to adjustable coil overs to raise the front end a bit.

They're a bit better than the 17'' things that were on there. The only reason i used them was because they were free. The watanabe's fit the style a lot more.
I was looking at toyo. Also want something with good wet weather grip!
Sometimes when you slide around every corner, it becomes a bit too much.

Will do soon Ross, have a bit to update!

PS have just fitted federal 595 RS-Rs to my rebuilt Simmons in 195/50/15

I'm stoked with them for only $120 a tyre

They aren't proper semi slick R compound but have all the proper semi casing construction and are nice and sticky

Highly recommended, your welcome to come around and have a look/ go for a drive and see what you think

Thanks Matt! Yeah i should head over at some point and check out how the car is coming along.

I'm undecided on tyres, I'm not sure I want to go a semi-slick or anything like that. I'm really considering a set of sport road tyres instead. Semi's take a bit longer to warm up and its really the lack of wet weather grip that mine suffers from.

Need to decide on tyre size too. 195/50, or 195/45 or 205/45 or 205/50. on a 16x7" wheel I really want the extra rubber to bag, so thinking i'll go the 50 series profile. Leaning towards a narrower tyre too.

Updates,

I'm on holidays for 3 weeks.
Have started pulling part of the engine bay apart again so that I can plumb in my Wilwood proportioning valve. Unfortunately, this means I need to relocate the Fuel Filter. Any suggestions?

IT also means, MORE UNFORTUNATELY, that it uses 3/8" - 24 thread size for fittings the flare nuts on the brake line, and when I did mine, they are all 10mm x 1mm thread :-x. What's worse is there is no join from between the bulkhead below the MC to the rear bulkhead at the rear brakes. So, in order to make a new line to go from metric to imperial to suit the valve, I have to cut and flare the brake line whilst lying under the car to put a new joiner in... Should be a fun experience

Anyway, on the weekend some of us had a bit of a meet and greet and met up with Michael Spreadbury from the states. Was good to catch up with a few of the other Datto guys around the area and managed to get the car out for the first time in a while. They've talked me into doing some super sprints! Now to try and get the car ready. Afterall, its what it was meant to be built for :?

So i'm on Holiday's currently. Taking the time to get back and do some work on the old 1600.

Last few day's, I installed a proportioning valve into the rear brakes. Bit of stuffing around because of the metric to imperial changes in sizes. All my fittings are metric but the proportioning valve is imperial.
Anyway, added a brass fitting down on the lower arm and made a few new lines. Had to make a new one going to the rear of the car also, because I couldn't re-flare my existing line as it was hardened type tube. No idea how i did it initially!

New tube and it was all fitted, but means that I had to relocate my fuel and brake lines. Lost my nice shiny ally brackets! I'll make new ones another time.

Verdict. Brakes still sucks. Time to change the front pads I think.

Then... Added new bushes into the rear A arms. This should be the last of the Noltec bushes in the car. Time for another alignment.

What happened to those bushes Ross? I personally didnt like the 180B booster. Once I changed to the Sunny one they came alive. Highly recommend it.

They were just old Noltec ones mate. Never replaced them since the arms were installed!
I run an uprated 7'' 200bsss booster. Rebuilt about 12 months ago.
I'm leaning towards either the front pads or front brake setup. Ie. The lines or calipers. Pads seem to work ok once they're hot.
