Yeah they're sick motors!

I think OS Giken made a simillar engine based around an L18 or L20??? They had dropped it into a 1600 which one of their mechanics owned, I remember reading that he had actually found the head and other bits stored away at the back of the factory full of dust and some other bits that were missing had to be custom built.

He's also posted a vid of it getting driven on the track and it sounded real Horny  I'll see if I can find the link.....

I've already enquired - awaiting a reply.

Appears to be the head only, missing the timing gear train, although datrats was looking at getting a small batch of these manufactured.

There was a complete engine on yahoo Japan a while back - it got up to 5,000 very quickly, then vanished before the auction finished. Perhaps someone made the seller an offer that was too good to refuse ??

Depending on price, I reckon you could make a pretty good "replica" / "LZ-inspired" motor by using a KA24DE head. They are fairly similar in layout to the LZ head - cast up a suitable rocker cover, add gear train timing, and you have something very similar for probably way less money.

Dave he has the whole front chain and guide setup, pretty intricate.

I can't see that head being worth any less than $10k?

He was really quick with replies and information.

Close. It was called 'Godzilla's Shadow". Owner is a local Ballarat man called Rob Thomson.
Extract from the story-
"Power comes from one of only
two twin cam-headed L2OB engines in the country. What makes it truly unique
is that the cylinder head is a genuine factory Formula Pacific open wheeler version
which Rob reckons is developed to the nth degree. He simply didn't have to
touch it. The owner-built engine relies on a near standard block, only modified
in the oil galleries. The original crank is cross-drilled, tuftrided and prepped to
accept Carillo rods and Australian Precision Engine Parts prepared Cosworth pistons."

I will see if I can post up a scan of it.
If anyone knows how to reduce or seperate the pages in Adobe Reader, let me know.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the asking price was in that ballpark.

According to their website, Datrats are making / thinking of making a batch of the complete timing setup (gear drive up to the top of the block, then chain to the cams). Price on their website was around $2k for this.

Barry Bray ran / runs a Gazelle sports sedan fitted with an LZ20 turbo engine, and the old Geoff Portman bluebird rally car apparently ran a large capacity LZ back in the 80's.

The S20 (a 6 cyl) wouldn't be much easier to find or cheaper (if at all). The demand for them to use in original C10 / C110 GTR's (or to make C10 / C110 GTR replica's) forces their price right up.
