Well, I must have given the car a solid thrashing though the spur, because I had terrible driveline vibration all the way home. When I decided to do something about it yesterday, I discovered that I only had two bolts connecting my tailshaft to my diff. One of them was finger tight.

The problem has since been fixed with new bolts and loctite.

Damn. Lucky you found it before you dragged your tail shaft around!

Not necessarily.
How often do you tighten bolts to specification on your car when you service it BM510?

Not really. I only just did an engine swap a few months ago, I probably just didn't tighten them enough then. And as SR20Datsun says, how often do you check every single bolt on your car?

Every service I check things like this. So every 5000 k's full oil change, filter, check for oil/water leaks, hoses check, full front and rear suspension check, brake check, and general running gear check. Anything that needs doing is done after a full check over :)

+1. It's lucky you were only running an L-series, if you'd had an Ecotec the extra power would have caused you some massive disasters.

I always do these bolts up as tightly as I can and have never had a problem.

So like i said poor maintance. I have had mine come loose before because i was a lazy turd when i was around 18. If it dose come out it can do some real damage, even put your car on its roof.

Strangely this would be an improvement for a 200B.

5K service for me is just oil and oil filter, AFM clean and clean out the pod, brake and clutch fluid level and other small odds and sods (because it's my daily). I've also started using the Subaru "upper engine cleaner" every 5K. Seems to make the car run better for some reason.
10K service is the full one. Check plug gaps, replace surge tank fuel filter, Check wheel bearings, diff, drive shafts, suspension bits and pieces. fan belt slack etc. Last service I just replaced the O2 sensor, and I'm going to replace the plugs next service.. I also check the intercooler tubes for excessive oil.

(i replace water every 20-40K along with diff oil every 20K and gearbox oil every 40K)

Actually I follow the Nissan service manual for the 200sx!!

To be honest, I can't even remember who did those bolts up in the first place. Could've been me, my father, or even Alistair.

Remember, they are a 30 year old bolt. I think it was just time for new bolts.
