hey im just windering why you would want disc's on the back???
if you are leaving the motor stock there is definatly no need for them , i like the idea but it you would need them engineered so i dont think it is really worth it.
i have raced my 120y, worked A14 with stock brakes all round (definaltly could do with something bigger on the front, but fine for the street)
i had to run another power wire for my tacho when i fitted it from a earlier model Y.

Yeah the tach came from an earlier Y coupe I think so i may have to do the same thing.

Discs on the back because i don't think that it would make them any worse than they are currently. You really need to step on them to get her to pull up. I assume that the booster is not doing it's job or is that just the Y's norm?

I'm going to have difficulty fitting the CC lancer booster and master, the master is going to interfere with the strut tower part of the inner guard, though there is another master that the lancer came with, with an offset reservoir. I had one at the wreckers but didn't think it would be a problem till I got home with the non-offset type.

I don't mind paying the $400 or so to have it engineered, I don't think I would get another Y as good as this one for that money, if i totalled this one cos the 30 yo brakes didn't pull me up quick enough.

I'm pretty hard on brakes :-)

Bit of rust work done. Just have to fill up a hole in the front of the driver's side chassis rail, hole in inner guard where I air-chiselled out the battery tray, and make a new battery tray.

Had a play with some wheels, in the process of swapping my Bathurst Globes with a mate for something that fits. Eventually settled for some Delta Monza Blacks, Even though the CSA Auto-Drags looked awesome with their massive dish on the rear pair (14 x 7), the front set (13 x 6) didn't fit the front end because the 120Y front hub centres are too fat to fit thru the centre hole in the wheels.

pics of updates here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... 7d0db1607f

What I've done since last post:

-Made battery tray, just got to mount it in a way to reduce the likelihood of rust forming again.
-Driver's side front inner guard repaired, just needs a little bit of filler
-Rust removed from passenger's side front inner guard, half welded up, just need to cut a little bit more out (1sq inch) and weld some new stuff in

-Got some pieces off a wagon at the wreckers:
-----Amazingly rust free drivers side fender. Will save me time repairing my one.
-----Near spotless/hack-free (needs a clean up and paint touch up, has one hole in it where switch used to be for spotlights) dash fascia with clock above radio
-----Another tacho if anyone is really really desperate for one

I swapped my hacked up old dash fascia with the wagon one. Only a couple of problems when I did it:
- Old vents in the wagon fascia did not operate/were broken, simple job of just unscrewing the ones from my dash and put them in the wagon one
- When I went to take the headlight switch knob off to remove the switch from my fascia, found that previous owner had superglued it on, so had to get a bit industrial on it's a$$ with some pliers and such, got it off in the end without breaking anything :woohoo:
- When I got the wagon fascia all attached and installed on my dash chassis, found that the previous owner had cut the plug off the end of the wires for the clock in the centre of the dash. Got to search for a suitable plug from one of my many wiring harnesses laying around the shed and solder it in to hook the clock up.

Cleaned the silastic off the little compartment that lives above the radio from my fascia and clipped it into the wagon fascia.

I need to mount the temp gauge under the dash chassis where it should have been mounted in the first place instead of silastic-ed into a hole hacked into the old fascia.

How common are econometers?

So this was day 1
How cool. I have never seen anything like this, an Econometer. Seems like a vacuum gauge. But it is very cool because it is a factory item.

Do you still have it? Let me know if you want to get rid of it.

Nice project. I like 4 door sedans, looks very nice with nice wheels and lowered suspension.

Good job getting that license plate off the car, it invites rust.

Cheers.

Yeah it's pretty much a glorified vac gauge, I've seen a few more around as I've browsed the Datsun community.

I still have it, but don't know if I want to get rid of it just yet, will depend on if the tachometers I scavenged even work.

Lowered so there's a 2-finger gap above the wheels front and rear, with old-style alloy wheels is always a winner for me.

Yeahp, it's almost like they deliberately designed them to rust haha

Not much progress mate, still slowly getting rid of rust in the front end. I've had to go to work quite a few weekends, so haven't had the time or energy to really get anything done. And when I do get time I've been working on my 1200, I've set myself a deadline of feb next year to get it on the road, and it's approaching quickly.

Not really anything around here man other than Hi-Way Wreckers. Apparently a wreckers up in Rocky has some 120Y's. But main place to find datto stuff is on here, BMSC forums, datsun1200.com forums, and eBay.

What are you after?

mostly just cashing the bits to put a manual in it and the stanza front struts and brakes, also a rear bumper for a coupe (not sure if sedan or wagon fits) the back rear shroud around the lights, some type of upgraded carby or 2 with manifold, cam and extractors.. i also wouldnt mind a spare complete engine.. the car is pretty complete so i dont need much, just chasing bits to make it better.
