ive read most of the brake upgrade threads and they all require the late 180b strut. mine has the early strut, it all ready has koni inserts and lowered king springs, as well as been tight on cash, so i dont really want to change my strut, what i want is a vented disc front end
so are there any upgrades that suit this strut? or am i going to have splash out for new struts?

thanks

What are you doing with the B to require upgraded (vented) brakes?

it mostly going to be a daily drive with a bit of fun on the weekends, nothing to radical. just after safety factor of the better stopping and less fade from going to a vented setup.

'Bit of fun on the Weekends' = what? :?

Try this:
1. Reco. the calipers.
2. Fit a set of GOOD performance pads (NOT Bendex).
3. Change the brake fluid to a high performance DOT4 Mineral.

While it doesn't sound "fulli sick, I havz an awesomz upgraded brakez bruz", it'll be cheaper than doing the conversion & (done properly) you shouldn't have any stopping or fade issues.

I'm gunna bet he'd like it to stop at least twice every hour as opposed to once an hour that it can achieve now.

I had to pull the 180b up at the High St roundabout on Fitzsimmons in a little bit of a hurry from 80-90kph a few weeks ago. Lights went grenn I took off then nearly sailed straight thru to apple peel roundabout 500m up the road as they hadn't recovered yet.

I dunno if you've driven a stocko 180b, but I've never driven a car with worse brakes.

I like to go for the odd spirited drive around some of the roads near my house however the brakes aren't even close to being up to the task. I've got better pads (non-bendix) and DOT4 fluid and it still refuses to pull up after the 2nd or 3rd heavy stop.

I think trying to talk someone out of upgrading their brakes a pretty silly thing to do.

As the OP said.
And where does it say I'm trying to talk him out of it?
I'm just trying to save him some $, instead of forking out more.

weekend fun is the odd motorkhana or a fun drive through the twisties. im not trying to make the car stop like a wrx or evo or anything like that just that it will stop more then once.

i get what your saying about rebuilding the calipers new fluid and pads as well as slotted rotors thats my back up plan if i cant find anything to replace them with.

im just wondering if there is any pretty straight forward simple and relative cheap upgrade like the commodore/verada, that i can do using my early struts?

just hunt around for some late model struts, your inserts and springs will fit and then you can do the commodore/verada combo

Fair enough. The tone sorta came across as though you were trying to discourage him that's all.

Isn't the difference between early and late struts the stub axle?

I think the mounting for the caliper is the same width and offset - happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

If I'm right couldn't you do the Verada/VR caliper by getting the centre hole different size?

you are right, but the verada disk wont go onto the early hub, the hub is to small

Can't you just use 200B brakes? The 200B Girlock brakes are cheap, readily available and they pull the car up fairly quickly.
