Now this isn't datsun related but i thoight someone here might have an idea.

Just wondering what would cause low oil pressure at idle. The engine in question is a Ford 250 Xflow. Just wondering if a worn oil pump would cause low pressure accross all rev ranges or maybe only at idle? All thoughts appreciated.

how low is the pressure at idle??
does it pick up around 2000rpm??

worn pump, excessive bearing clearances due to wear, thin oil due to excess blowby (worn rings, petrol contamination) etc can cause low oil pressure at idle

whack some 20W60 in it ;)

what is your idea of low oil psi. the usuale cause is worn main barings and is apparent at idle

Hi RatDat If your talking about a V8 GM pos they have a peculiar problem which shows up as oil pressure at idle but as soon it comes off idle theres NO oil pressure. The cause is a blocked oil pick up together with either lack of oil changes or the use of castrol gtx.dont ask me why but we do this fix --sump off remove sludge /flush engine/change oil filter[again] and all is usually well. When asked what what sort of oil was used the predominant reply is always Castrol GTX--wtf. Anyway we make a few dollars fixing the pos. We have also noticed that V6 dunnydores run on the aforementioned oil look like a well used BBQ when you pull the rocker covers off.

Here's todays laugh

When Holden drivers decide to change makes if they survive that long What do they go to----- TOYOTAS

I have an XF Spac which has the digital dash which has a oil pressure indicator. At idle the oil pressure is in the red zone (low) but as soon as i rev it to say 1000rpm it goes back up to the middle. The engine does have a fair bit of blow by and is a crusty old 250 cross flow so im not too fussed. I did a full service on it today (in 40 degree heat) including new 20/50 oil and it's still the same. Might go for something thicker next time. Thanks for yr help guys.

I would clean the oil pressure sensor first before worrying about it mate.
if it had low pressure, enough to do any damage the motor wouldn't be running now.

I'd go with the above posts. Old donk with worn bearings. Don't matter keep drivin it till it stops.
