Race 1 - Dicing with the Monaro

Race 2 - Running at night. I passed the commodore down the straight, and then got the evo a couple of corners later.

Accident damage put us out of race 3 where we would have started from 7th based on accumulated points.

I was driving pretty aggressive and took the inside line into the slowest corner on the track. The other car didn't expect me to be there and turned in to take the apex...... the end result was a pretty bent car. These things happen.

Here is another shot of the car after the accident. The guard rubbed through the tyre on the last lap exposing the steel belts, eventually starting a little fire in the wheel.... very effective at night.

Sorry to hear about the accident Mark. Just glad it's not too major. You should have it fixed in no time mate, and ready to hit the track again.

Yeah.... mostly cosmetic I think. Will know more when I pull it apart.

I have a spare guard, just needs to be flared to clear the tyre and then painted. Will need to track down a new grill and bumper though....

Congrats Mark, especially for the good attitude about the second coming together. Ive seen too many helmet throwers sounding off about who was to blame for what was a minor accident with nobody to blame. They'll soon learn that the Sunny is coming through, so make a gap. Just as an aside, I noticed you painted the brown window winders black & the paint's coiming off. Had the same problem with my Sunny Coupe. The solution is N14 Pulsar window winders, freely available at all reputable wrecking yards & some shonky ones, & in a range of colours including black. It makes the car look original, if you know what I mean. I got a wave through at Rushes back here in Sydney when I grabbed the pair I needed, but they shouldn't cost too much if you had to pay for them. Tell em it's for a race car & take a couple of photos along, might get you some freebies.

Great piece of advice...... look out wreckers - here we come!

No action of late, very busy with work. Hoping to get the car home next week and start pulling it apart. Aiming to be racing again for round three in April if I can get it all back together by then.... might be a few late nights.

Round three is also on the long track, so I get to stretch the legs a little..... even get into 5th gear!

Time for an update........

Sunday 14th March

I finally found some time to get the car home this week, and have finally started pulling it apart to inspectthe damage properly. The more I looked, the worse it got :(

It appears the main reason forthe tyre rubbing was not the guard after all. The accident was big enough to actually bend the strut at the base and push the tyre onto the strut. So much so that the adjustable spring platforms (aluminium) have been worn flat, and the spring platform was virtually welded to the spring.....must have been hot in there! I think the shock is ok, but it is still stuck in the strut tube at the moment.... still need to figure out how to extract it.

So here is a list of known damage from the last race meeting that needs to be repaired........

1. Bent strut - Tube needs replacing
2. Wrecked Front Guard - Needs to be replaced, so flare will need to be done also :(
3. Damaged corner of bonnet (repairable)
4. Damaged Front apron - Will be replaced
5. Adjustable Spring Platform nuts on Strut - Need to be replaced
6. Grill - needs to be replaced
7. Panel across front of car (behind headlights) - Needs repair on LHS
8. LHS Rear flare - Needs repair (dented)
9. LHS rear Door - Needs repair (dented & big round black tyre mark)
10. Front Bumper - Replace if possible - repair if I have to.
11. Rear Bumper - Repair (straighten)
12. New Front Tyres
13. Front Springs - need to be rated, and then replaced if necassary

Other Must do jobs.........

1. Remove Diff and add more camber to LHS.
2. Repair snapped bolt in restrictor - Head of one of the bolts has snapped off, so the restrictor can not be removed. The bolt will need to be drilled out, but to do this I have to get it out of the car. To get it out, I need to remove the whole exhaust manifold, with turbo, waste gate & dump pipe in one piece.....that's going to be painful!
3. Remove sump & fix persistant oil leak
4. Fix oil leak (seeping) from drain on Turbo

Jobs I'd like to get done........... Brake upgrade! (might be the ideal time now the strut is out of the car).

That's it for now, but with a list this long we will probably miss the next round also and hopefully be back for round 4 in June.

Hey Guys,

The repairs are coming along, although I have been so busy with work I have not had a lot of time to keep working on it..... Here's a short update.

Bumper is fixed, new guard has been fitted (still needs to be flared), Panel work around headlight has been fixed, Grill has been replaced (thanks Datski), Broken bolt holding reatrictor in has been removed. Front Struts have been removed and packed ready to send back to Sydney to be re-tubed. Going back to the guy who originally built them. The diff is out and ready to go to the workshop to have some more camber on the left hand side. Once the suspension & diff come back and I get them in the car, it will be off to the panel beater to have the guard flared and the new bits painted.

Once all that is done, I can put the exhaust manifold & turbo back on and I'll be ready for the track again.

I have got some progress photos somewhere....will post them when I get a second.

Datski..... Will drop by and see you soon. I have bottle here for your too....appreciate the bits and pieces.

More work over the last couple of weekends.

Exhaust manifold back in, Intercooler pipes in, radiator pipes in, all turbo lines connected.
Steering back in, exhaust back on.
Front struts back in, new guard on, bumper back on, Valance back on, new grill on.
Diff back from engineer...more camber. Centre installed and housing/centre installed in car.

Still to be completed......

1. Fit new axles seals, re-fit axles, rear caliper brackets & calipers.
2. Bleed brakes.
3. Fill Diff Oil.
4. Re-fit sump (after fixing broken bolt!)
5. Fill with engine oil.
6. Drain fuel tank (old E85 = no good)
7. Remove front guard for transport to panel beater.
8. Wheel alignment & fill with fuel then off to the track for a test day.

Panel beater needs to do the following..........
1. Repair front Valance, Drivers side guard, Bonnet, Scuttle panel, and Passenger side rear door flare.
2. Flare passenger side front guard.
3. Paint front end of the car & damaged rear door flare.

Should look a million bucks once its done.

Getting close to getting back behind the wheel.
