Hi Guys i found this ride very intresting as my old man was the one that won classic adeliade early classic in 2009 in the 240z u have to keep in mid if u run as a 280z u will have to run at that wieght and will put u in late classic. If u go for 240z u can only run a 2.8 as the rule are 17% from the original motor wich is 2.4 which is cams rules. To make it more confussing if u run aasa event wich are targa and asp tarmac rally u then can run 3.1l as there are no capacity restriction on engines and make shore your car is at the right wieght before the event other wise u maybe give a penalty

cheers daniel devenish

Also according to the rules a 2" increase in rim width & dia. is allowed, so as the 280z & Z432 both used 14x5.5" inch rims a 16x7.5" rim is technically allowed, even though many seem to think a 7" is the max allowed (mainly due to porsche guys that complain I think) as the standard 240z & 260z used a 4.5 to 5" rim (depending on location..?)! (pitty the factory didnt go through with the Z432R rumoured use of 15x7 magnesium rims, but instead opted for the use of 14x4.5 steel rims as they stated that race teams will use their own rims and therefore it would be an unnessessary cost...arrgghhhh where was the foresight?!)
Yes in the case of the Z432R that's true, but the regular Z432 and Fairlady Z did have magnesium wheels. The Z432 had them standard, and the Fairlady Z had them as an option. In Portugal they were standard equipment on the 240Z. They were 14" x 5.5J

The Works rally cars also had similar style mags in 14 x 6J and 7J

I guess it just depends on how the CAMS rules define "standard wheels", whether its what was available in Australia at the time, or world-wide.

I wonder how the rule is applied to Porsches, Australia only or world wide.

No further progress as yet!

Ah Devenish, thanks for your input! (also note to self: keep actual specs secret, the competition is watching... oh did i say that out loud? LOL)..... anyway, just a thought, what if i ran as a 260z, then i could go 17% over 2.6L which is almost 3.1L and still be on the 240z/260z weight? (early or late classic doesnt bother me too much)

Mr. camo, interesting point!

Love the look of your Z by the way, and have enjoyed the thread, I'd love to Targa, but the cost puts me off. I run a 260 on the track and plan to classic race it when the kids get a bit bigger, the buricrats (spelling) don't feel right unless they can ping you on something as you try and get your paper work in order. I look forward to reading how you all go.
