Anybody made, or know of where to get a great looking dash for a 1600? Well not the whole dash, just the facia where the gauges are? I dont want a botched looking thing, has to be very professional.

Looking to put full autometer gauges in!

Cheers

Some ideas for the centre section.

I'm trying to get my hands on a SSS gauge facia to take a mould off, but they are to damn expensive if you only want the plastic section.

only one problem I can notice is that they point down a tad too much, would be nicer if the head deck was on the bottom and the gauges on top slightly pointing to the right and up.

HAHAHA, i was looking at doing the exact same thing yesterday! But i have something a little more elaborate in mind... Because its going to incorporate a new dash centre panel down to a centre consol. See how good my fibreglass skills are in a few months!

IMO go for something factory looking, like a SSS dash, the autometer guages will fit nicely in some round housings and it will look closer to OEM

Yeah... I've also encountered a design flaw. Moving the CD player to where the ash tray and cigarette lighter are currently positioned will require the CD player to be positioned about 30mm forward of the fascia to accommodate the screw at the rear of the metal ash tray mounting point which acts to secure the entire unit onto the dash chassis. This would mean it would look funny with the CD player protruding out further than the rest of the dash. So, to overcome this, it means putting the CD player beneath the ash try, involving making another pocket for it to attach to and a bracket to go up to the dash chassis to secure it from would be thieves. But then this would block off the heater vents into the cabin. And the final problem for me, is this would be ok if I had the lower vents on the trans tunnel into the cabin. But then these are blocked by the centre consol.

Need more R&D I think. Then i'll build.

But I would really like a SSS dash fascia to copy. They are nice, and streamline. But expensive.

^^^ why do you need tunes when you have a nice sounding car lol

why not look at sr20datsun's build, he replaced his OEM dials with some nice VDO ones in a SSS dash form memory.....

I currently have a SSS dash in the car, but I can not bring myself to modify it at all. It is a perfect dash and cluster, and for what they are worth.. no to cutting!

I am thinking of taking a standard dash, filling the gauge holes, smoothing over, cutting holes to suit VDO/Autometer gauges and finally, painting!! Lot of work!!!

Cheers
