MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS
All tubing used in roll over protection structures shall be circular section cold drawn steel tube (CDS, CDW or CEW) with properties as shown in the following table:

The main hoop needs to be either 44.45mm outside diameter with a wall thickness or 2.5mm or 50mm outside diameter with a 2.0mm wall thickness

all other components need to be either 38mm outside diameter with a wall thickness of 2.5mm or 40mm outside diameter with a wall thickness of 2.0mm

vehicles under 700kg need tube with the outside diameter of either 38mm w/2.5mm wall thickness or 40mm outside diameter with 2.0mm thickness

CAMS may consider other steels and sizes not in compliance with the above through the process of roll over protection certificate. Note that these figures represent the minimum strengths and dimensions permitted. In selecting the steel, attention must be paid to obtaining good elongation properties and adequate weld ability,

The tubing must be bent by a cold working process and the centreline bend radius must be atleast three times the tube diameter. Where the tubing is distorted during bending, the ratio of minor to major diameter must be 0.9 or greater.

Steel "half cages" are the minimum accepted in speed events.

Full cages are minimum accepted in races, timed rallies/trials and offroad.

If your just planning on doing club events an alloy cage or no cage is satisfactory
