Hi all.
Well after much thought, I've decided to keep the 1200 Sedan after all.
We've decided to take on yet another project (My partner is currently resoring a GC Galant, as well as a doing a Turbo Conversion on an M21 Proton while helping my parents re-build & restore their EH Wagon) hence, this may take a while.

History:
Bought the car in March 2010 for $200 off a mates dad. Very, very happy.
Came with a brand new bonnet & front lip, 2 originial chrome bumpers & an aftermarket one.
All interior except for carpet, there isnt much she's missing. And aside from a ripple in the rear quarter, and some light surface rust here and there, shes dead straight.
Original A12 & Manual box, all seats etc. Like I said, pretty much complete.

The Plan:
Body: Will be cleaned up & painted the Holden 'Storm Grey' or 'Delft Blue' colour - not sure which yet.
Engine Still undecided on what to do with the motor. Being that I'm on my P's (Well, I will be - nearly 19 and still on your L's is not the best start haha! ) and after talking it over with the other half (He's a mechanic by trade) we're tossing up between modding the original motor, or converting it to an N/A-CA18.
Trouble is, I can't drive a manual for long periods of time (due to a problematic pelvis/hip). So any reccomendations on autos or alternatives etc would be great!
Other Bits Interior will be leather, not sure what colour, possibly like a cream/latte & dark grey. Not sure what sorta sound system either - got a strong love for Soundstream, but enjoying Memphis Audio & Response stuff also. And the usual, Tint, exhaust, lowered etc etc etc

Any suggestions or comments would be really appreciated. This isnt going to be a rush build, and with so many other projects this is the last thing on our list at the moment, but it will be chipped away at over time.
Thanks
-Zoe

Nothing like a good ol' exposed pod filter to suck all that lovely hot engine bay air in and rob you of 8hp or so.

Stick to the original motor, chuck a rebuild kit thru it after checking the compression to see if it needs it (bout $400), extractors ($50), and a sidedraught carb and manifold (carb $150, $125 for jets etc, manifold $100, fuel reg $30-80) and it should lift you up to about 75-80hp if you tune it right.

I think all that is all in vain anyway since you aren't allowed to drive a modified vehicle on your L's or P's. So just a rebuild should bring back all those horses lost over the past 30 years.

As for the auto g'box idea, if you get one, send it into an auto g'box specialist to get rebuilt with some bigger valves and pipes, chuck it in your car, set the kickdown properly, and it should go just as hard as a manual. I'm not 100% sure what you will need to do to fit an auto in a manual car, but pretty sure you will need to:

- cut your trans tunnel out, and either cut one out of a wrecked auto car and weld it into your car, or fabricate your own, since the manual tunnel is smaller.
- make or find an auto gearbox mount and member, as i think the auto uses a different mount
- get an auto tailshaft, think they are different.

Thanks Racer.
Car isnt running at all yet. Hasn't been since well before I've owned it. Had it for nearly a year now.
We will be keeping the original A12 after all. Got a racing head and cam package to be picked up for it soon.
As for the box, definantly putting an auto in, looking to have it fully manualised however.

Other than that, the project is at a standstill. Due to increasing medical stuff & my spraypainter having fallen in love with his appretice and now has no time for his friends/clients we havent had any work done to it as yet.
Hopefully it will all come through for the best. I jsut want to drive the little sucker!
