Hi Gang.
First a little history lesson. Not just you normal 120Y.
My uncle and aunt bought this car brand new in 1979 from ira burke at eagle farm in brisbane.
The car has been in the family ever since, only just recently has my uncle passed, so aunty decided it was time to move on.
Myfather helped her move a couple other vehicles, and he noticed this little car was next.
Aunty had interest by some people that only wanted to use it as a speedway car.
After Dad told me about it, my ear pricked up as i always liked the sedan's for some odd reason.
He went had a look and for a 31 year old car, is is damn good condition, consedering my Xb, which has had a bit of panel work and respray, this thing hasn't had anything done, but some minor paint touch ups.
So the aunty was keen for it to stay in the family, through me, nowing I would restore it to it's former glory.
So this weekend we travelled the 3.5 hrs drive to the bundy area to pick it up. Fully servicing the engine and driveline, we even replaced the rear brakes for the trip home.
But as i dug into the glove box, and Dad handed me the papers. Not only is still registered, dricing and in very good working order.
But we also found all original 31 year old documents:
owners manual
purchase reciept for $3400 brand new.
service reciept and ID card
service manual with all services dated and stamped.
radio manual
radio service centre guide
radio broadcast/frequency guide
every rego cert
every service reciept for all repairs and replacments
+ the receipt she wrote for me, was done on a very very old rceipt book, so it too looks as old as the orginal! lol

She was fully serviced and ready to go, as we left for our trek home, we found she didn't want to drive in 3rd and 4th. UHHH i think the clutch may also be the original! so we took it back to the parents and Dad is going to trailer it back home to our house tomo.

Plans for this little tike, after realising the history, heritage and tidyness of the vehicle:
*REPLaCE CLUTCH WITH A NEW CLUTCH & KIT!
*Replace and renew all under carriage components and bushes. (give it the handling back/make it better)
*Maybe freshen up the engine if need be, definitly clean the engine and bay, and repaint.
*new exhaust, extractors, nothing fancy.
*lower it maybe an inch, give it a nice stance
*find some cool wheels for it, keeping with the old school flava!
*clean the interior up, maybe new carpet (black instead of brown) and fit hidden stereo, speakers are done, so they have to stay, but may cover parcel shelf, and hide them too.
*take side moulding off. rectify limited dints and any rust spots. remove side aerial and replace with either non or centre roof mount. replace gutter chrome. Respray car in original white(was thinking color change, but still in air).

If it didn't have the history it does or anything like that, i probably would have dropped it, rad paint and hot rod it, but i think i could do my uncle proud and put a smile on my aunts dial.
I'll get the detailed shots tomo of it when it arrives, then the fun begins!

Dan

nice condition man, i'd suggest going for the nolathane bushes, cheap and easy to get.
king springs are cheap and drop the front good and easy.
have fun with it man!

Yep, i am 1 of the managers in a auto parts store, so parts aren't too hard.
Like the falcon, I was going to go nolathane for a few main parts and rubber to maintain ride quality, not making it too harsh. Although i have heard superpro are right in the middle of nolathane and rubber.

i haven't had anything to do with the superpro bushes, but have replaced all bushes in the coupe with nolathane and it isn't a harsh ride, it's very direct but not harsh.

ok, good to know, least they'll be there for a lot longer than the rubber.
how easy are the front control arm bushes?

I'd usually get my bro to do it, he's a mech and built the falcons suspension.
But i want to do this one myself. might be a bit rusty. lol

should be fine, if you work in an auto shop, buy some loctite freeze spray, it's the best thing i have ever bought, it makes any tough bolt easy to remove.
and you shouldn't snap any!

Nice little project there, looks like it is in great condition.

These cars dont rust anywhere near as easily as XB fords - I now own an XB myself :)

OK doky
sent car to my bros on arrival to rectify the clutch. new kit and kaboodle. He also checked the engine out, 2 extra bolts may as well give it a freshen up. so it's stripped and a full refresh of rings seals and everything. even the carby is getting freshened!
hope to have it back this weekend and start planning the work. Haven't really had a good look yet.

oh i thought i'd show what else is pakred next to it.

well tonight we got the engine cleaned and back together. It was obvious my uncle used the engine as a boat anchor.
the amount of rust and crap in the clutch and plates, no wander it failed. and the sudge i cleaned out of the pan and engine. my god! I reckon i found 6hp just in cleaning that out.
gave the block a coat of paint, didn;t go all out on the rest as i'll clean the wiring and paint a couple bits when it gets home. sorry no pics but forgot the camera.
the engine is back in and in all of the stuff i got to rebuild the motor, we were nil supplied 1 welsh plug at the back of the motor. the one that needed replacing the most. so i have to hunt one down tomo. wooptydo!
i'll get shots tomo!

Finally got some pics of progress.
Since my last update:
The engine got pulled out and stripped cleaned, honed and rebuilt with all new bearings rings etc, as well as a new clutch kit.
I didn't get any shots, but the rust on the sandwich plate and flywheel etc was like it was used for a boat anchor.
The goo and the horrid old oil in the sump and gallaries was herendis. Now she's like new! no smoke and tight as a drum!
After re-fitting I got everything finished off and tarted it up a bit and made everything work properly.
I pulled the intereor apart, got everything working and screwed together properly. all is good.

hooked the radio back up. works sweet. then i lost a knob, CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH ANOTHER KNOB?
and what goes in the missing section above it? (although we may put a w-temp and oil press gauges in there anyway)

Nice XB mate!

Wish my 120Y's dash was as good as yours... :(

A little tray thing goes in that hole. Mine was busted out to fit a stupid CD player

I will check out the 120Y's at the local wreckers next month and see if I can find you a knob and one of those trays if you like

I'm also asking a fella down south whether he has the bits, might save you a trip.

Well, sorry for the lack of updates.
Got the RWC done, and then got my Club letter all in the one day.
So after a bit of a stuff up on the forms for qld trans, i now have it with my personalised plates, and also on club rego.
So now we'll get the suspension done in our own time. Then get the carpet for the floor.
Next, the body work.
