My love/hate relationship with my cnc continues. Well to be fair this time it's an open source software issue.

I have my design now 100% completed, go out to the garage and the software is not working for one aspect of it. ahhhhhh

I have to find an alternate solution now

That sucks, what software are you using?
Is yours the xCarve model?
I have had plans on my computer for 10 years to build an xyz axis cns router that I wanted to make out of alloy. Ever since i started getting into building circuits and amplifiers for playing guitar i wanted to build a cnc. The overall cost just adds up pretty big though. One of those ones look to be worth the coin!

Hey Ross,

The software is chillipeppr, is a great application. Actually I worked it all out. It was a java cache issue when you press the enter key in a spot the app doesnt like. It crashes the app and destroys the cache, from that poin ton it wont work. Anyway, it's fixed and working. I cut out the board however have to call it quits for the day, need to head out.

Here is a pic of the board and ill send through some more info later.

With regards to the XCarve. Not sure if I could recommend it 50/50. Will put up some thoughts later on it if you are interested.

Actually, the board was much more complex than I first expect. I have gone a little overboard with the optocouplers however it was the first time to play with these things. Really cool :)

Cheers,

Trent

Hi All,

Almost finished the new board now. Soldered up, I need to grab a couple of resistors from Jaycar today and we are done. I have some nice plugs etc that I can use to make it a "plug & play" module.

Hopefully I'll get it on the test bench tonight time permitting. I'll try and grab some video as well. For what I'm trying to achieve it's complete overkill. Having said that it's been fun :)

Cheers,

Trent

Tested and working perfectly. Will try and get it into the car over the next week or so.

Looks good to me!
So basically it's a warning light and buzzer for low water levels or high temp or both?
What temp did you program it at?

Hey Ross,

It's only for low water (This has happened twice before) hopefully withe the Merc overflow I should be OK now :) I dont log temp with it... However I could for the next version.

It's essentially an over engineered light system, the cool thing is that I can update via software. So 2 x 12v input and 2 x -ve input to trigger the lights and buzzer in any config I want :)

I have already started on the next revision to make the board a little smaller...

Cheers,

Trent

For my next electronics project, I have been toying with the idea of making the heater controls in the Datsun a little nicer.

Essentially, stock control's as per normal, with everything controlled via software (yes...Arduino) So i would need to do something with the heater setup, with this in mind I might also be able to set some "crude" climate control for the heater temp. This needs to remain with the stock setup.

I have most of the parts and it's just a matter of: Is it really a problem that needs to be solved? The current setup works OK, just a little clunky withe the wires etc. By using servos and software the whole thing can be managed with some really basic code...

Thoughts?

Hi All,

Small Datsun distraction last week. Picked up a new toy. Never thought I'd end up in one of these dealerships....

It was a little bit backwards, we had already seen the car without the cover for about 1 hour, just quickly put it on for the kids before we left :)

Amazing handling, not as quick as the datto though, I'm taking both to Sandown on the 30th of Sept so will get some video of it.

Just watched this vid

after yours. Quite a sporty little beast. Much more so than my wife's '04 auto focus. Man can drive too.
