Post subject:  What strut insert?

We have gone to fit new strut inserts into the rally car (Datsun 1600) and can't work out what we have. Ordered 240k inserts as they are 10" length legs, but they don't fit! The shocks are about 15mm to long and poke out the top of the tube. I have some 200B struts also 10" length with new inserts so I removed these and they don't fit either. Same problem, 15mm to long.
Now I am a bit confused as to what struts we have.
Any idea's people's?

There should be a Nissan Part Number engraved on the strut tube near the spring perch facing outwards.
240K and 200B both use the same cartridge, body length of 404mm.
If you are needing a cartridge 15mm shorter, then you need a body length of say 389mm of T4 type.
Below and Hold, no Nissan cartridges are near that length :?
Are the cartridges you removed the correct length for the strut tube or did they have a spacer inserted in the tube to raise them up?
The closest item I can find to that length is for the Nissan Pintara/Skyline '86-'91 so that would be the R31.
Those are T4 type with a body length of 362mm.
So if the struts are Nissan items perhaps they are from an R31

Struts still had the original wet legs inside so can't go by them. I've got R31 struts here too and they are nothing like them. But I will check the specs of the R31 and see what I come up with. Thanks for that.

Use a KYB Z31 insert with a spacer at the bottom of the insert.
with the correct bump stop these work quite well under rally conditions.

Just a bit off the topic, but ive been thinking about a solution for having to constantly change from 90/10 inserts for drag, then back to stiffer road use. (becomes tedious when you go to the drags almost every week).

However, i found out that koni make fully adjustable inserts (i have 200b coilovers). Adjustable from 90/10s right back to stiff road use again by adjusting it through the dial on the camber top. I didnt belive it at first, but spoke to an engineer at koni, then spoke to mad dat and they phoned to confirm with engineer, as their koni rep had apparently never offered it before.

So there you go. Fully adjustable strut inserts without removing a thing. Its not cheap though, about 5-600 for inserts, then a couple of hundred to revalve to 90/10 if you want to go that soft.

Obviously this is common already, but have never seen Tien, BC, HKS, Eibach etc setups available for 200b, 240k, 1600 etc
