Hi all,

Trust me, im not gonna ask how to do this, plenty of info on here and around the country for that.

But i cant seem to find any info on how to install an R31 lever handbrake onto the floor of a 1600 sedan? (modern style like in a centre console instead of reaching under the dash)

I phoned nissco, and they reakon its a pain in the ass because of some ratio problem?

I also Phoned around to see if there's a template or measurements on how/where to install the lever and mounting plate, but no luck.

Any info would be appreciated.

And i lied, i do have a question about the upgrade.. Is there only one type of R31 rear caliper and disc? More specifically, is there different sizes of calipers and discs?

As far as I'm aware, there is only one type of caliper / disk on R31's.

The "ratio" they speak of would be the ratio of how much travel of the lever = how much travel of the caliper handbrake operating mechanism. Should be able to be fixed by mucking round with the positioning of the holes in the lever arrangement under the car, where the front handbrake cable connects to the rear part of the mechanism.

Pretty sure Datsport have a bit of a tutorial on their website somewhere on fitting a centre handbrake to a 1600, dunno if they use R31 bits though ??

Got no intention of drifting this thing. I like all parts on my car lasting a long time.

datsport kit is great, uses existing holes, you just need to drill a hole for the cable to go thru.

The trick is to use a 120y lever and bolt it to the floor, then fit the r31 cable to the y lever (it fits like it was meant to be there). Then you have to cut a slot in the floor for the 31 cable to pass through the floor and to bolt to it. Underneath you can get rid of the standard handbrake yoke arm thing that bolts to the floor, then get a link cable made. This replicates an r31 and stops the cable hitting the exhaust. I have done this in 3 1600's and in my 120y and it worked great, the ratio on the levers is the same but by using the y lever it won't hit the floor and it looks more factory than the modern looking 31 lever.
