Hopefully getting mine in the next week or so  Didn't think it would change my insurance though, the car is already insured as being driven sparingly, but that's awesome Brad, I'll have to call up Shannons and suss it out! :cheers

Went with Lumley special vehicle insurance. They used to be known as vigil classic car insurance. Shanonn's have gone down the drain IMO since Rob died.
The reason it is so cheap is 90 days is a much smaller risk than 356 days. The risk of a claim is greatly reduced hence the premium price. :)

Do they insure daily drivers too? Might have to give them a call.

Good work Brad, and thanks for sharing the info!
Might give me an excuse to own another car... I'm contemplating keeping the datto on normal reg, as I just love taking it for a squirt to work if it's a nice day.

Oh and Brad, which car club you a member of that allowed you to run club plates?

I did find this interesting:
Vicroads wrote:
It is expected that these changes, which include a new

‘replica’ and ‘modified’ vehicles, will be implemented after
February 2011
Basically means if you have club plates, you have to get the car inspected???

I'd say they will do a crack down to close any loop holes of guys running un engineered cars under the club permit scheme. I'll be fine as I have an engineers report to back it up.
I'm a member of PIARC. Nice guys and easy to deal with. You have to provide a roadworthy certificate for the club to sign off on club reg. No biggy.

My main reason for going on club plates is a financial reason. The full reg is getting real expensive. I probably only drive it maybe 40 days a year. So the savings are huge on both the rego and insurance. A mate of mine has 4 vintage bikes and 7 cars all on the road. It's a no brainer for him. He swapped them all over apart from his daily to club reg. I'll be putting the A model on Street Rod permit when its finished too. :)

Nik, street rods are a whole different ball game to VicRoads, nothing to do with our cars which are classified as classic/historic. As Brad said, all you need is a RWC and a signature from your club rep, then take the forms to VicRoads office to do the changeover.

Hi,

Which Nissan/Datsun clubs can certify cars for this scheme?

Hey I renewed my standard reg recently.

Can you get a refund if you switch to club reg?

Yes, whatever you have left on your current rego will be refunded, because you are effectively cancelling your current rego and starting a new one.
