Hi,

Spotted a 260C wagon (and a sedan) in Imlach's (Centre Rd, Springvale) today.

Yeah but they're both 330s. Like comparing a 510 and a 610...

Looking good :!:

Never realised these things were wishbone front end, I assumed they were macpherson strut

And a big  for the idea of using hard drive magnets for holding patches in for welding. Great idea.

Hey mate, nice wagon..saw this on ebay..it's got a/c which is nice..try going to http://www.oldschool.co.nz one of the guys there has one of these wagons but a 240c...orange..the guys there will know alot about the shock/suspension set up. Also I have a magazine with a roadtest of this wagon from the early 70's. I will post it to you if you would like.

There was a 330 wagon on gumtree that was in tassie ..damn thing was near MINT...wanted it, wouldnt mind a 280c 330 wagon..I see there is a 330 280c sedan in Melb atm..I'm in Sydney, wish it was here!...

Cheers for the post mate. I've seen a thread on that oldschool.co.nz forum but I got the impression the car had been sold and the owner is no longer on the forum? Yeah they only seemed to get the L24 motor and the nicer looking tail lights (instead of the ones with the blacked out areas for no reason, and good luck finding the JDM lenses to fill the surrounds!). That magazine roadtest would be AWESOME that is one of the things I am really after!

The car has what I believe is dealer fitted aircon (would love factory fitted stuff!) but it isn't actually connected and working. I might get it working later on...

If you want me to check out that 330 for you, if it isn't too far away, give me a hoy. There are a few auto 230 sedans on the market atm. Haven't seen a manual 230 wagon anywhere though haha, I do know of one hidden away though with some damage... might buy it when I get some space

Hey mate no worries, I have sent the 280c owner a message for a phone number, will get some more details then get back to you if I want to get it looked at and it's not too far from you.

Send me an email with your contact details so I can send you the magazine..The air con fitted in your wagon is a dealer fitted option. The original air con system of course runs through the existing vents, but it's a huge bonus having a/c fitted anyway.

You should be able to source another cheap 230 dato sedan, and what I'd be looking at is converting to Power steering (easy if you have a donor) The under bonnet light is a factory Option, 230-330 dato's all have the, great idea that no one seems to do these days.

Righto I sent you an e-mail with some details mate. Cheers

Even in a daily I think I'd prefer to go without power steering. And from my experience of old cars fitted with factory power steering, it's even worse than modern cars that still maintain a little bit of feel. I'm just against all that stuff in general really haha. Prefer a cable clutch, un-assisted brakes, tight h-pattern, fast ratio manual steering rack, manual windows etc even if the car is slow lol

The front end is back together and sitting a bit lower which is nice. I pulled the tailshaft out and it looks like the centre bearing I bought is a little bit different. F*ck! So now I'm wanting to know where I can get one that is correct for the car.

On a lighter note, thought I would chuck this in because it's pretty pimp hahaha

Will have another take at that shot when I actually get everything cleaned up & mad. But it shows off how cool this car is

+1 nothing like reliable simple mechanicals.

Well no but I can't see myself converting it either haha. When I've fixed the leak and worked out how to make the pedal heavier I might dig the hydraulic clutch more but atm it's an inconvenience - I can't pull it apart and lubricate the cable or adjust the pedal height by reaching under the car without any tools like I can on the Torana! lol

In positive news, I believe I have found the correct centre bearing - just a 'CB02' instead of a 'CB01' through Burson/Bearing Wholesalers etc, or otherwise I can get an 'SX0658LLC3' directly from CBC bearings. This is the 'CB01' which suits a 200B etc, same ID and OD but different bearing width, different offset and protrusions for the splash guard don't match

you could change how heavy the clutch is by changing the ratio of master to salve cylinder diam investigate if the 180b master is a larger diam then the 260c one? or else make a new/ adapt a slave wouldn't be too difficult. or change to somthing with a stiffer spring. bleeding it shouldn't be too much of an effort its a single short bit of line. fixing the line will be a matter of looking at the slave cylinder which are cheap to replace or the line in which case use some of your $$ and get something braided that looks nice.

Once you have it set up right you wont have to lubricate it or adjust the pedal height, if done properly it will have a nicer feel to it and you wont have to worry about cables stretching or braking.

Wow looks like you are making some really good progress, I am sure the bloke who does your Roadie will appreciate that nice clean front end.

I have had to take a few weeks away from the shed as my wife just had a baby but I am slowly sneaking back in. I have picked up a pretty good workshop manual off Ebay. It is pretty well detailed and has some great exploded diagrams so if you are chasing any thing like that PM me and I can scan it and email it to you.

Will try to get a few pics so that I can update my thread in the next couple of days.

Yeah ripper dude. With this car I got a manufacturer's workshop manual, owner's manual and a manufacturer's workshop manual for the L-series 6's, so the same stuff goes for you and you might just wanna have a read through the owner's manual etc if you're interested not that there is anything too ground-breaking hahaha

Hopefully the inspector will be impressed lol. I'm fixing the rust on the opposite side sill atm. Now I've gotta figure out whether I am going to remove the windscreen like you did or not...

I would have to say after pulling my windscreen out it is amazing the amount of rust that was hiding underneath. Mine only looked as though it had a few bubbles on the passaner side.............
