Some progress. Have fixed:

Sharp brackets at centre console - removed
No carpets fitted - Wring and hand brake cable exposed - fitted underlay and new carpets
Alternator belt cracked - replaced belt
LHR seatbelt broken - replaced this belt too
Front tyres cracked with age - Mags added as per pic. need to change the rear tyres over

To Do:

LHF park-indicator lens cracked - 80/81/82 dont fit too easily to a early model - any one have one for sale?
Minor free play in front wheel bearings - pulled wheels and calipers and couldnt detect any free play ffs.
RR wheel cylinder leaking brake fluid - have replacements, deciding whether to DIY or get new RWC people to replace if needed
Tear in front seat - the one I bought as a replacement was a passenger side. **** should of checked that 1st eh?

Not overly happy that these items werent picked up, nor that I could get it booked in this friday at the same place for them to do it again. I will be looking for a RWC place closer to home now as I am not working out at hawthorn. Any suggestions around South Melbourne/Carlton/North Melbourne?

good news though - pics of car with new rims on front. 13 x 5.5 so legal width for the stanza :)

it will get more low when the RWC mission has been completed.

Success! Fronted up to vicroads yesterday and got some plates. Day before it got a RWC going over and ended up with new rear wheel cylinders, new rear shoes, new battery and a couple of headlight bulbs. **** stoked it finally on the road and Running well.

Now the mods can commence :) To make it handle better I'm thinking lower stiffer springs and some new front shocks - sound good? I have a rear sway bar to fit but what about adjustable camber plates in the top of the shock tower? Do S13 ones fit and if so do I need different struts? If I need different struts do my current dics and calipers bolt up as these are new.

Cheers

nah respray by previous owner. engine bay is black but inside boot and under carpet is brown. It will stay like this until it comes off the road for lovin. British racing green is what my first one got sprayed in and am thinking the same for this one too. No black sills or door frames either.

edit: might rattle can the bottoms of teh guards and the bonnet if i get bored... hehe

Nice Stanza, should be a bit of fun. Where in Melbourne are you located? You should come to one of the Thursday night pizza meets in St Kilda. Check the thread in the Victoria section ;)

I have owned a Datsun 1800j SSS [stanza] for 27 YEARS !!! This car has never let me down and will drive the car till i kick the bucket :D The only real problem i have had is the inlet valves became very very tired , so bad i had no valve clearance and had to squirt fuel in the carbs to get the F;''''ing engine to turn.Have now put in new valves and away we go.
The only hassle is the springs are getting soft and need to uprate them to rally spec.I used to rally a P510 SSS during 1973.I am now 60yrs old and will die a fan of DATSUN not nissan!!
Good luck with the job you are doing.By the way my car has had a respray in 2010 and is canary yellow. :)

Looks good :) a guy I used to go to school with had a yellow one too. Any tips on handling for the Stanza? I might visit pedders this week/early next to see what they have.

Auto One in Essendon sorted me out with the discs. Had to order them in after paying a deposit and couldn't do it over the phone necessitating two visits. Receipt is at home. Discs to suit Girlock calipers.
