Yea im hearing you mate, if I could find a factory tacho and get it to work I will use that, because this thing is far from the 70's look im aiming for haha
Hi Wormtail, have you considered pulling the clock apart, basically destroying the back bart of it, cutting a 52mm or 75mm hole in the face of the clock and putting a VDO or similar tacho in the bezel?, you still put the Datsun "glass" or plastic back over the top. I did this to a Valiant years ago, put a VDO gauge in the origonal cluster, it doesn't look perfect, but it's not to bad.

Mate you have done a great job on the whole car, but if you like I'd be happy to give hacking your clock up a go. There isn't that much to it anyway, just pull the whole thing apart, take the clock off the face, then smack a hole in the face, paint the face black, stick the gauge or tacho in, then put it back in the bezal behind the origonal plastic lens.

Are you getting Bundaberg Towing to move you're car?

Cam.

Mate your car is looking great, I looked at your pictures of painting it and you've done the yards, well done.
In regards to the towing, I'm from Brisbane, I've known the bloke who owns Bundaberg Towing since we were kids, and we've had quite a few birthdays since then. LOL. I also do a bit of work for a few of the Tilt Tray blokes in Bundy.

cheers mate, i have spent 4 or 5 years working on this thing and am quite pleased with the results. I first sent it to get a backyard respray when i was 18 and got ripped off for a $1000 and it sat there for a year. I ended up becoming an apprentice painter and worked for 2 years before quitting so i could learn the skills of the trade and how to do the work myself. I did the prep work and painted the door jams/ engine bay and insides of panels but ended up getting the tradesman i worked with to paint the topcoat. I regret not painting it myself but didnt want to risk it as i wanted it perfect. The mechanic got the RB running a bit better this afternoon and it sounds like an absolute animal. I really cant wait to fit the rechromed bumpers when i get them back and going for my first cruise or showing it at a jap car show. It was originally purchased by my dads uncle in 1974 and was our family car for years before i got it. Dad nearly sold it before I put my hand up and said Id have it. I will never sell this car and my girlfriend understands my love for it lol

That is hot, far out. Good to hear you won't sell it, ever. I plan (keyword - plan) to never sell my 'Bird, more so because it won't be worth anything, and I could just turn it into a fire-breathing race car or something if I wanted.

And top job getting a girlfriend who understands your love for it - Does that mean she is allowed to ride in it? :P

Haha, good job mate, it's gonna turn out sweet. All those years of f*ck ups and probs will be worth it soon!

Wormtail, I saw you made reference to new laws regarding the Mod plates, I hadn't heard anything, are they making it harder? I had a look on a hotrod forum (mind they can be a bit strange) and it said that in regards to a hotrod, it had to meet the ADR's applicable to the time, as in date of the conversion. I'm hoping I've read that all wrong. LOL.

Queensland Transport don't even tell thier authourized officers what is going on untill the last minute. They whole system was meant to change and all the AO's reapply with all these changes, that was ages ago, I havn't heard a thing. One of the reasons I was intersted, I've got an old International ute I want to hot rod, and that would mean putting a V8 in it, and I don't want to use a crappy Iinternational V8 when I could put almost anything else in it which would be far better, I've been wondering weather to butcher the 260C and put a V8 in it. Your would run absolute rings around it, in fact a L26 probobly would too, but I like the niose they make. LOL.

I'm actually in Bundy tonight and tommorow morning.

so did u contact a AO and they knew nothing? so the laws have been implemented? If you fitted a v8 into the 260c it wouldnt be butchering as long as your mods were reversable. I didnt cut up anything when fitting the RB. V8 twin turbo 260c? if you wanna talk dattos im working at sportspower opposite sizzler tommoro from 8.30-2.00, not sure if the boss would care

No worries mate, I'm actually staying pretty close to there at the Sugar Country, I get cracking pretty early but I should be able to drop in a bit later in the day, who do I ask for?
With the mods, I am an AO, but I havn't heard a thing, not that that means anything at all, I've had them tell me everyone was sent letters before etc, and I've never seen anything. Got a letter ages ago saying we would have to reapply etc within about 12 months, that time frame has come and gone. They don't do anything until all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.
I'm ussually up well before 7, I'll PM my phone number if you like.
All the best, Cam.
