My freshly rechromed bumpers are back in town however I am picking them up from the freight depot tommorrow afternoon. I am really hoping the quality is topnotch. Next task is to fit up the bumper lights, paint the back of the bars with a rust-proof paint, bolt on the brackets and mount them to the car. Getting closer, will pop into the mechanics next week to throw the bumpers on and see if he has finished it yet, no rush it will be done by xmas

mark i cant even try to describe how im feeling at the moment however you fill the blanks F##KING PISSED OFF

well i picked up the bumpers just before and got quite a shock
problem a) chrome has several imperfections and tiny pits
b) rear bar was dinted in freight

The chrome is shiny however and from a meter away it looks fine so i can live with that, its only when u really look that you can see the issue, the bars are low on the car so it will be fine

To cure the dint issue i am about to go over to the next town 40mins away in about an hr to see if my panel beater mate can massage the panel back into place with some wooden hammers and dollies. The dint is across the top of the bar where it rolls on the 90 degree ish bend. He straighten the bars before they went to get chromed and didnt have to metal finish this top piece

I phoned the chromers and they said yea its the best we could get it cause of the rust pits etc etc etc. and see the freight company. I was furious however kept my calm and acted civil. Im more than happy to post pics however might be thinking of getting them redone in a few years when im finished uni and have plenty of $$$$ anyone recommend a good place in sydney?

cheers a sad and poorer mitch

Remember you are talking about thin crappy Nissan bumpers here. Chroming from what I've seen and heard isn't as easy as painting a panel.

I think I'd be pretty irritated about the dent though, I could live with the chroming.

I'm hearing you Mitch, I don't mind if they say before they start, this will cost $$$$, but sorry it will still won't be perfect. I paid a bloke in Brisbane $2,500 to make a new bonnet for one of my old trucks, when I got it back, they had more or less detroyed the old bonnet getting the ribs out of it, then didn't use the ribs, made new ones out of 25X25 RHS, and made the bonnet out of sign white, basically about $30 worth of materials, thing was hopeless, to cap it off I could have got one the blokes working for me to make the thing in less than a day. Anyway, back to your woes, the car at St George might have a reasonable back bumper, I know the front one is cactus. Chroming and polishing is a bit of a black art, you can't just bog it up unfortunatly.

Yea considering i specifically stated that it had to be perfect, oh well its not the end of the world. Down the track if i find a decent chromer i will get them done again however its just not in my budget to get them redone at present.

If you paint them silver you can bog them up

Mitch, it looks pretty good with the blow over, gotta say I'd have been happy leaving it at that, but you've gone a step further, bit of dedication mate. Mine is still sitting in my mates shed. I thought it was the back slave cylinders, but they are perfect, master cylinder next. Once I get it stopping, I'll look into the rings, that should get it going.
You've got a nice car there mate.
