Hey all

I have a question regarding the stock dash frame.

I am trying to sort out steering column. I am replacing the spear column with a collapsable one.

I am not really sure about how it mounts to the frame. The collapsable one has a mounting bush and metal tabs attached to the column whereas the spear has two little brackets that sit above and below and then bolt to the dash frame.

I was worried that maybe my dash had been cut in this area but I looked at pictures here

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DATSUN-1600-BLUE ... 5adfebea84

and it is the same.

Anyway, can anyone shed some light, show some pics or just tell me how the collapsable one is suppossed to bolt to the original dash frame?

Thanks in advance

James

mine bolted up straight away too. the cradle you're talking about I think gets discarded and the new collapsible column has the "cradle" as part of the column.
the cradle and bush was only for the spear column.

hope this helps.

old cradle.

Thanks guys

Yes, that is what I had and have. So I take it that you just have a big flat washer and nut on the other side that holds in onto the dash frame cut out bits?

cheers

James

I just worked out what you're missing.
The dash has the cut outs, what fills the gap and has the welded nuts for your column to bolt to is the pedal box.
Slide that puppy in and it will all make sense.

:)

Man I'm a muppet sometimes.

Thanks mate, makes much more sense now. Appreciate you picking it up. The system works. :)
