Has anyone ever mounted a baby seat in the back of a 1600? Just keen to know whats involved, is there a mounting point in the parcel shelf that i cant see?
Im thinking ahead a bit as my sons only 3 months old, but at the same time im keen to get him cruising in the Datto

Yeah dude go for it.
I got two anchor point put in mine on the parcel shelf so I can take the young bloke for a run.
It cost me $90 for 2 anchor points installed.
You can make up your own arrangement apparently but then you have to get it engineered and it would apparently cost more for the engineer certificate than to get the installer to do it all himself as he is already qualified. Anyway that's what he told me and $90 was pretty cheap anyway.

Good stuff, $90 is a bargain. Theres a workshop in my area that is apparently qualified to fit baby seats, so i might go and have a chat with them if thats the case. A pic of your setup would be great, Thanks for the info mate.

Dude. I have a bar that came in my 1600 for fitting the baby seat. IF you want it, come around and its free for you and we can have a look at how it bolts in...

Yeah that's all mine is.
It's just a plate that runs under the parcel shelf, bolted in.
With an anchor point on each side or you could have one in the middle.

dodgy photos of my phone.
Also I didn't hack the crap out of the parcel shelf to fit this a previous owner did it to install some bass pumping 6x9's. Now I'm looking for another parcel shelf to weld the pieces back in. And the anchor points should still go throught the to factory holes in the parcel shelf as they are in the same place.

Ha ha, yeah me too. It pisses me off every time I see that parcel shelf. I wasn't real keen on having the bar bolted in for the anchor points either but that will be an easy fix filling the holes when I eventaully remove the bar.

At least when I do find another parcel shelf to weld the missing pieces in there are actually factory holes around 4-5 inch diameter in the spots were the anchor point are so the anchor points should still be in the right spot.

Any ideas if these anchor points could double as points for racing harnesses?

No. Well, not if you want to do it properly.
Technically racing harnesses should be mounted at a 45Deg angle down from the seat I believe. And that parcel shelf isn't strong enough in itself to hold weight, you can grab it and flex it with your hands. most people who do harnesses either remove the back seat and run them down to the seat belt points at the rear. Or (ideally) have them mounted on the lower roll cage bar (if you have one) or make a bar up and weld that to the car floor to mount the harnesses at the correct spot in relation to the seat and to achieve the angle.

Racing harnesses should be between horizontal and a MAXIMUM of 45deg. The recommended is only 15deg from the horizontal. So in other words, as HORIZONTAL as they can go.

Use at least Grade 8.8 bolts, use 70x40x3mm plates with weld nuts on the opposite side when fixing. Try to mount the plates on a structural surface, and try to mount them so the bolt is trying to be pulled out of the nut (so not being bent).
Really a reinforcing plate(s) should be mounted on the vertical surface of the parcel shelf (so where the back of the back seat used to be) for ideal mounting. Refer to the CAMS manual, or a diagram somewhere on this site for further information.

I look forward to the CAD diagram of the triangulated support bar for the rear strut towers and parcel shelf that incorporates baby seat and racing harness mounting points!
Put me down for a pre production order
