how do you convert the floor mounted accelerator pedal to be inline with brake and clutch pedals? now is the time to do it with only pedal box, column and dash frame mounted inside.

any info and pics would be appreciated. i punched in accelerator pedal in search
box, but nuthin came up.

cheers :cheers

Porbably easier to rip the oxy and some 8mm steel rod out and make your own custom jobby :)

Inline, as in up-down or forward-back ?

Personally, having driven a few with various different pedal setups, I find the factory setup to be pretty much perfect for "spirited" driving. Ideally positioned for heel-and-toe style gearchanges.

^^ really?

Dave, inline.. the same as modern cars. imagine a standard 1600 pedal box with a third lever in same position. thought that would be easier to heel-toe, as its pretty easy to do so in my falcon.

hmmm... i tried googling pics to use as an example, but nuthin came up.

hope that explains.

You have to twist your foot more + bring your heel up higher to hit a 180sx pedal for example compared to a Datsun floor mounted pedal.

+ 1 for Datsun floor mount.

I have limited experience with diffrent pedal box's so im no guru however if you are worried about it id be making and adjustable one up that way you can tune it to your preference, however ill also say i personally find the 180b one in a good spot for the heal toe certainly better then mums 323 but maybe that is as much to do with feedback through the pedals as it is about pedal position. What falcon set up do you like?? I use dislike the AU set up because of how light the accelerator seemed to be and how high the brake sat in comparison the accelerator, though that was an auto so possibly different to the manual and you dont have to worry about the heal toe.

Yep, I get you.

I drove the Sydney Datsun Club's "loaner" 1600 at the Marulan Driver Training track session of the Nationals last weekend after I broke mine. It looks as if it has had a small pad welded onto the standard 1600 accellerator "lever" (the metal part that hangs down) and had the plastic bit that goes on the floor removed completely. The welded-on "pad" had no "swivel" movement in it, which probably didn't help

Personally, I found it a lot more difficult to drive than mine with respect to pedal placement. Rather than "heel and toe", it was more "heel and side-of-your-foot-in-an-awkward-way". I just like the way you can go into a corner, ball of your foot / toes hard on the brake and tap the accellerator with your heel while downshifting. I guess it really is personal preference though, it might just be that I've driven Datsun's with the stock pedal setup for that long that it feels perfectly natural.

To do it, I'd say the easiest way would be to grab a pedal from the wreckers that you like, then just cut and shut it onto the standard 1600 "hangy-downy" bit of the accellerator after removing the hinged plastic floor pedal. I'd have to look, it may not be perfectly in line, but I reckon it'd go close to what you're after.

Actually, on 2nd thought, what type of accellerator linkage are you going to run ? If you're swapping to cable, maybe just graft the whole pedal / cable setup from something else ?

^ well just to add to fabrication creativeness..i've got an FJ with custom inlet manifold and XF throttle. so farked if i know what cable to use. thats going in the 'job i'd rather not do basket'

lol and i do use "heel and side-of-your-foot-in-an-awkward-way" ha!

i can just picture the look on the cranky fat man at wreckers now...' i need a modern accelerator pedal to suit datsun 1600 pedal box, cable to fit 1600 with FJ and XF throttle, and by the way i also need a modern heater box that datsun 1600 controls will clip straight onto.' ha!

s'pose it wont be rocket science to make a pivot on pedal box, then position lever where i want it. im just not the r&d man.. i find then copy 

i have used vr commadore pedal for efi on other cars. got it from the wreckers for $20 with cable and would work well on a datto with a slight mod to the mounting bracket.

Just go grab a setup from the wreckers. Most aren't to hard to adapt.

After pulling the accelerator setup out of my U13 bluebird it looks the same as the S13/14 ones that Datsport sell.
