 Post subject: Rechroming bumpers
PostPosted: Tue May 11, 2004 11:43 am
G'day,

I thought I read something about this a while back but tried a few searches and can't find the topic again...

So, just wondering whats a reasonable price to get a pair of striaght bumpers rechromed? No dents in the bumpers, just a few stone chips which are a little rusty. They're the bumpers without the overriders.

Thanks for any help, Ben

PS I'm in Bendigo, Vic. if anyone knows a good workshop nearby...

You had better be sitting down when you ask questions like that
My son had a rear 240Z bumper re-chromed, no repairs, $800
There are a variety of finishes you can specify right up to Show Quality.
Just ask for ex-factory and one would hope the price would be less :?

As for a local to you, have a browse through the Yellow Pages.
Bendigo may have what you need but Melbourne isn't far away

$800! what the ****! i would want every piece of chrome on my datsun done for that.

I know a dude in sydney that has a contact that does rechroming, he quoted me around $200 to get my front bumper done and also straightened...

Unfortunately sydney contacts aren't going to help you tho.

Do you have any friends that work for qantas? they have a rechroming section in there workshops, i had a mate who was going to do all mine for a case of beer..

Time to go make some friends that are airport mechanics!

Steady....

The actual 'chrome' topcoat isn't what costs, it's the prep work & other metals that are applied that eat up the $$$. It costs more then the bumpers are multi-piece too (the Z rear is a 3-piece bumper with 2 over-riders).

No it wasn't cheap, but what part of a 240Z is?

Got a quote of $230 per bumper the other day, I'm assuming that's a reasonale price going on what you guys have paid. The guy seemed to know his stuff really well, talked about three different stages to the process etc.

Any input much appreciated

Thanks, BEN
