Post subject:  Taking off door chrome? (Stanza)

Removing some bits so i can paint my stanza, would people pelase be able to enlighten me on how to remove them without wrecking anything?
-Chrome where door shells meet the glass
-Rear quarter vent
-chrome arouns the doors but attached to the shell (can get pics if needed)

Well, if it is the same as the 510, all you need is brute strength and care.
The clips have tiny teeth on them but once you lift the strip up and break the grip, it will eventually slide off in the VERTICAL direction.
The clips are "U" shaped and grip the thin edge of metal that runs along the top of the door.
I used a wide blade spatula and gently levered the strip up from the cabin side of the door
The old clips may be corroded but you can usually source new ones from a Crash Repair supplies shop.
If you want to renew the rubber squeegee on the strip it will require some creative thinking but it can be done :wink:

If the rear 1/4 vents are like those on the 510, they are held in by a four screws usually.
You need to rotate the vent as you extract it since the part inside the "C" pillar turns up to prevent water ingress.

The trim around the roof gutters usually just rolls of once you lift the leading edge.
It might be wise to lubricate the gutter side with some WD-40 to loosen up the grip on the body steel.
