Had this 1600 for about 6 months now and have finally made room to bring it in out of the weather
-71 model
-L20b twin 45mm webers and dogleg 5speed box
-sh*t wheels, lowered suspension, dodgy interior, venetian
-plenty of rust in the rear qtrs, sills, and the occasional spot here and there/ everywhere (previous owner had a go at fixing it up, but gave up

if you're going to do nanna spec, i think you should stick with the original colour (engine bay?)

The front apron is fairly banged up, do many people replace these with fibreglass items?

Plenty of work ahead of you with that one. That front panel looks fine. Mine was worse.

A fibreglass one will still require paint and of the overall weight of the normal front valance, which is next to negligible, why would you bother!?

I was just being lazy as there would be less bodywork to be done on the new fibreglass item, couldnt give a rats arse about trying to save weight...

original: would need to be stripped, shaped, filled, blocked, etch primed, highfill primed, rubbed down & painted

Fibreglass: 800 wet sanded & painted or primed then painted

I suppose i would save $$$ by repairing original so thats what will be done lol

Been on uni holidays a week and have got into the 1600

so far i have
-welded up the bonnet pin holes in the bonnet
-welded a patch into the firewall
-welded up the radiator support where bonnet pins were mounted
-welded patches into the bottom of front guards
-welded nissco rear qtr patches both sides
-welded up the gl side trim holes and sill trim holes
-welded a replacement panel in one sill
-stripped the sill on the other side and found some previous rust repairs
-paint stripped one door
-welded a patch in the rear under the windscreen
-welded up excess window mirror holes
-welded a patch in the top on the RH front guard

next plan of attack is to
-prep the next sill for replacement and replace it
-paint strip the insides and outsides of all panels
-pull the motor out and do the engine bay
-prep and paint inside the boot
-spray epoxy primer and do minor repairs
-hoping to at least have it all in epoxy by march next year when i go back to uni any more than that then its a bonus

Were they rivet holes that was used to hole a "textbook" backyard panel beating effort previously? This build is reminiscent of my own! Nice work, I would have replaced the entire sill however. If you can be bothered i'd still do it as the middle is probably thinning out also.
Otherwise, good work so far!
