Just read this on another forum...

Quote:
as of a couple weeks ago, it is now manadtory that every vehicle inspected for rwc requirements has to be photographed by the licenced tester for vic roads records.

areas that need to be photographed include:

car level sitting on the ground
car in the air with the wheels off
cars vin and chassie id tags
engine bay shot
under car shot.
I guess the price of roadies will go up now due to the amount of work involved.

They probably will. No more roadworthies over the phone now :(

Having said all of that, I was talking to a mechanic who ahd just received a letter from the VACC, stating that VicRoads had jumped through some loopholes and that there was question on the legitimacy of it, and also that VicRoads had lied about the date they put on the letter as they wanted it to look as though it had been approved last financial year.

Eh, I'm sure they'll find their way to enforce it.

Yeah, that's gonna suck for you guys.

But at least it's not too bad, really. It's just going to take a bit longer (and cost more). My last RWC included the same stuff (test drive, up on hoist etc). It seems like it's just to prove that the blokes are doing their job, rather than making sure the lights work and signing off on it.

It's only once a year, I'm sure you can spare an hour for it.

Ever since we've had the Bluebird going through RWC, the KMs have been the same for the past 3-4 years lol: 174856 - I'm amazed nothing has been said about it. But that's NSW for you ;)

I don't think it's too much of a big deal.

Meh the workshops will find a work around. For example before the car drives into shop take a quick pic. The when they get the Vin and engine number take a quick pic last but not least don't take the wheels of and lift the car for a quick look over and take a pic. It should take all of 2 mins extra time to take the pics and then another min or 2 to archive the photos. I do agree it is bullshit but it not really that bad.

You're right. For the people getting legit RWC's it's all standard. But it is aimed at people who swap wheels and fit dodgey parts and even swap out parts after a RWC and then sell the car with undersized rotors etc. In alot of cased it is actually designed to protect the Buisness owner and the unsuspecting consumer. If I can get my thou past the current scheme then there will be a way around for most. But then, my RWC guy has known me for years, we worked together before and he knows that I would NEVER pull a dodgey on an unsuspecting consumer.

Unless it was that prick who is Rodger Moore. Man I hate that guy.

We're lifting our RWC price up soon because of this. I haven't heard about it already being implemented though?? I heard it was soon, like a few weeks.
We'll also be photographing everything we defect a car on, just for further proof.

I don't have a problem with it myself, but i'll laugh at some of the more bogan workshops that struggle to use a computer though, let alone a digital camera!

What about all the old diggers though? I guess it'll become the apprentices job in the end at just about every workshop.

As for it being implemented, my good mate who's a mechanic said vic roads executives sat down two or three weeks ao and decided to implement it as of July 1st, two weeks prior to the the meeting lol

it isnt once a year in vic though we are lucky in that its only when registering a car or transfering names. even though i see why yearly checks are good im glad i dont have to do them in vic.
