Hey guys and girls thought it was about time to make my own thread. So i bought a 1600 about 5 years ago and used it as a daily driver for about 12 months until the motor gave way most likely due to my driving lol . After that i started a new job that required alot of moving and so forth and the car didnt get touched. I just started to strip it recently and discovered that the chassis was cracked (where the rail meets the front head light panel) it will be fixed after my 69 is done. Oh well so i found a cheap shell on ebay for 500 to play around with .
I would like to do the usual SR20DET conversion, paint and panel myself well as much as i can anyway .

You've got some work ahead by the looks of that rear end. Nothing that can't be fixed just time consuming.

GL with the project.

So over the weekend i removed all the bog i could from the rear end, man it was thick it took so much longer than i expected 3m discs and wire wheels are my best friends  although the 3m disc worked much better. I will have to get a new rear end panel and both lower quarter panels and a real hard bit the rear left upper boot folded area ill have to get it folded up or get one from a donor car dont know yet ill have to do some research. I will be buying a small gas mig welder at the end of the week gonna teach myself how to weld should be interesting  .

Rust in the roof im not to sure what to do about this. There are no holes all the way through, i was thinking maybe drill holes through then weld up the holes. I will be painting the underneath, the chassis, the floor and roof (all the inside) with por-015 maybe that will be enough for the roof.

Looks like some of those panels are pretty banged up. Good plan on getting the rear beaver replacement panel, get the dints out on the qtrs as good as u can and skim it with bog/block it 80g/prime it/block it 120&240/prime it/wet sand 800/paint it white/ drive it :giggle:
well thats the plan with mine, can get away with more with white paint

Good luck with the welder mate.

Take your time and practice. Invest in a large gas bottle as well, you will go through a lot of it. I ended up going through 3 of the big bottles.

As for welding the roof, might be worth getting a professional opinion before you go down that path (Depends exactly where you are going to weld), just in case you do more damage than good...

Cheers,

Trent

@ CASUNNY, Im trying it was a bit harder than i thought still mucking around with the settings need more gas i think my little disposal bottle ran out :D
@ Wormtail1, I was planning on doing mine white already with some black and chrome 5 spokers
@ Hailest, Yer thanks mate i will have to get a large bottle or 10 i need alot of practice  im not very good at the moment

Ok so it has been a while since i made an update. So i have cut off the rear end (i hope i didnt cut it in the wrong spot  ) found two donor rear ends, one is alot better than the other and the better one i havent touched so if i have messed it up the panel beater will be able to fix it with out too much trouble i stole the bonnet from my other 1600 and some doors i got off one off the donor cars. The 1600 is going to the panel beaters in april, i would have loved to do it myself but im a bit out of my league at the moment particularly with the rear end . I have bought a few bits and pieces some new badges and External Walbro 255LPH GSL392 fuel pump, 2 surge tanks not sure which one to use as yet and a few other items i have so many parts now i running out of room to put it all and have a very unhappy/angry wife in the mean time . I have decided to work from the rear of the car to the front. So next on the list is to figure out the fuel system setup, buy a R31 brake setup, buy some por-15 for the inside, boot and underneath for when it gets back from the panel beaters.

cheers,

Richard.
