Now I have figured out how to get photos to load up, here is my family's history of Datsun ownership.
I could not find suitable pics of my first 180BSSS (1975 - 1980) and 2 Nissan GQ Patrols (1991 - 2000).
My son owns another 2 Datsun 1600's, one is his daily driver, and the other is a 1967 model, planned to become a historic rally/race car.

I found a pic of my Son's Datsun 1600 daily driver. When I bought it for $600 in 1999 it was a "granny spec" auto - not any more.

Currently sitting in my shed waiting for me to get motivated to weld in the repair panels. This is the only pic of it I can find on the computer. Its rusty in the usual places for a Japanese built 510 - but not as many places as an Australian assembled Datsun 1600. Body is straight, the second roof on top is there for storage only - never know when you could use a replacement roof!

Datsun 1600's were first imported into Australia in 1967, before local production commenced in mid 1968. The imports had "flip flop" wipers (non parallel operation, different trim, slightly different lighting design, and a much better built body, and panels that were coated to slow rust happening. Also subtle differences in front suspension setting, and a non collapsable steering column - a spear in front of you if you prang it.

Here are some old pics of my 1968 model rallying in 1981. In those days it was hard to get good pics when you were competing.

While I was searching my foto archives I found these pics I took of the competition at the 1981 Alpine Rally. Some big names.

I'm going to do what nobody else will, and comment on how very fine that 200B wagon looks! Looks like you've had a bit of racing time. I noticed there was one up around Bright. Does that stage still run? I can;t imagine a rally happening there!

Alistair.

The Bright photos were taken while I was waiting our turn to run the Bright Speedway section of the Alpine Rally. Two (or four?) laps of the Bright Speedway was one of the rally stages in the Alpine Rally of that time.

The first year the Bright Speedway was used as the first competitive section on Sunday(?) Morning, about 1973/4 or so, the local speedway crowd turned up to see what rally cars were all about. They took a lot more interest when first car on the track, a road registered Holden Dealer Team LJ XU1 driven by Colin Bond, smashed the Bright Speedway's outright lap record by many seconds! (Aussie Datsuns were not the top rally cars they became a few years later).

If you take a close look at Geoff Portman's Datsun 1600 you will see it has no panel rear of the back wheel. Prior to this shot he had put it backwards into a bank, flattening the whole rear of the car. Still finished well up the field - he may have even won? Cant remember.

Photos of 3 of the 4 Datsun 1600 collection, in my shed.
My son now owns another one I bought for his wife when she got her driver's licence in 2003. A former granny spec Datsun 1600. It runs an L18 in "SSS" configuration with a 5 speed replacing the former auto.
